Sony Acquires Bungie, the Studio Behind Halo, Destiny Series of Games for $3.6 Billion

Sony has just officially confirmed that it has entered into definitive agreements to acquire Bungie. Videogame fans will know Bungie as the revolutionary studio behind the seminal first-person shooter franchise Halo.

As of late, Bungie has been working on the Destiny franchise, which has spawned two extremely successful live service games, with the sequel continuing to rake in major numbers with every new season. Sony has also confirmed that Bungie will continue to operate independently, maintaining the ability to self-publish, and most curiously, reach players ‘wherever they choose to play’ according to the press release.

Sony will be acquiring Bungie, Inc for a massive USD $3.6 billion. This is only weeks removed from the bombshell announcement of Xbox/Microsoft acquiring Activision Blizzard. While the timing of it makes it seem like this is Sony’s response to Microsoft, deals of this magnitude take months or even years of planning.

Sony Set to Acquire Revolutionary Studio Bungie

“Bungie has created and continues to evolve some of the world’s most beloved videogame franchises and, by aligning its values with people’s desire to share gameplay experiences, they bring together millions of people around the world,” said Kenichiro Yoshida, Chairman, President and CEO, Sony Group Corporation.

Destiny 2 has been a uniquely successful title for Bungie as the game continues to grow beyond what even the most optimistic of fans had in mind during launch. True to their promise, Bungie were able to build upon a strong foundation at launch with routine updates and expansions that helped the game become the juggernaut that it is today.

This is easily one of the biggest acquisitions in gaming for Sony and a clear sign of great things to come in the future. From the phrasing of certain statements in the press release, it might appear that perhaps Bungie’s games won’t be restricted to PlayStation, but that is entirely up for speculation.

IDC: tablet and Chromebook shipments grew in 2021, but things are slowing down

2020 was a banner year for tablets with record shipments in the fourth quarter. This was driven by the surge of people who work or study at home due to the pandemic. Now with the pandemic easing off, shipments are slowing down as well, according to data from the IDC. 2021 was still positive for manufacturers as total shipments went up 3.2% for the full year, reaching a total of 168.8 million. That’s the most slates shipped since 2016. However, the final quarter of the year made it clear that the demand is past its peak. In Q4 2021 tablet shipments were down to 46 million units, the...

ANYCUBIC Vyper 3D printer review

Introduction While not directly related to what I do here at GSMArena, 3D printing is a huge passion of mine. Having recently done an in-depth review on the CREALITY HALOT-ONE resin 3D printer, I recently got a chance to play with the ANYCUBIC Vyper and can now share what its real life performance is like. I have been doing Fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing for over a year and have owned a total of three 3D printers - my current Monoprice Select Mini V2, which is the only one I could reasonably keep with the limited home space I have and before that Prusa i3, which...

Tecno Spark 8C with 90Hz Display, 5,000mAh Battery Announced: Specifications, Features

Tecno has launched a new budget smartphone. The company has unveiled the Tecno Spark 8C, which is the company’s fifth smartphone under the series. It had first announced the Spark 8 in September 2021, followed by the Spark 8P, 8 Pro, and the Spark 8T.

The new Tecno budget smartphone is currently not available in India. However, we can expect the company to launch its new budget smartphone soon in the country. The phone comes with features like a 90Hz display, dual-camera setup, etc. While we wait for the official launch date, let’s take a look at the Tecno 8C specifications, features, and other details.

Tecno Spark 8C RAM and Storage

Tecno has not announced the pricing details of the 8C at the moment. The phone’s RAM and storage options are confirmed. It has a base variant with 2GB of RAM. The 3GB RAM option comes with 64GB of internal storage.

We can expect the phone to be available for under Rs 10,000 in India upon its launch. The device comes in four colours – Grey, Purple, Black and Cyan.

Specifications and features

The Spark 8C comes with a 6.6-inch display with an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1612 pixels. Since it is a budget offering, the device does not feature an AMOLED display but instead comes with an LCD. It has a waterdrop notch at the top centre for the 8MP front camera. The device also comes with 90Hz refresh rate support.

On the back, there is a rectangular camera block that houses a dual-camera setup. The main camera has a 13MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. It is paired with an AI lens. Next to the camera sensors is the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The phone also supports AI face unlock. Under the hood, there is a 5,000mAh battery. There is no word on fast charging support. Therefore, we can expect the phone to support 10W charging out of the box. For memory expansion, the device comes with support for a microSD card.

Details about the processor remain unknown. However, it is being speculated that the phone features a Unisoc T610 chipset under the hood. The same chipset is found on the likes of the Realme C21Y, C25Y, Moto E40, etc.

Samsung touts Exynos 2200's ray tracing support, other upgrades in new video

Samsung Galaxy F23 5G with Snapdragon 750G SoC, 6GB RAM Listed on Geekbench

Back in July 2021, Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy F22 handset. The company appears to be working on the successor of the F22. Earlier this morning, we spotted the upcoming Samsung Galaxy SM-E236B on the Geekbench benchmark database. This should be the upcoming Galaxy F23. The company might also rebrand the same device as the Galaxy M23.

The Geekbench listing reveals key specifications of the upcoming handset including the presence of Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G. Let us take a closer look at Samsung Galaxy F23 Geekbench listing,

Samsung Galaxy F23 5G will Come Pre-loaded with Android 12!

Samsung Galaxy SM-E236B appeared on Geekbench 5 database. As per the listing, the handset scored 640 points in the single-core round of the benchmark test. Whereas, the score in the multi-core round of the same test was recorded as 1820 points. The listing confirms the presence of an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with codename lito.

Based on this, the handset appears to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor. This is the same processor that we have seen on the OnePlus Nord CE, Xiaomi Mi 10i, and Samsung Galaxy A52 5G. Snapdragon 750 comes with an integrated X52 modem, that brings 5G connectivity to the table.

The benchmark listing also confirms the presence of Adreno 619 GPU. The handset appeared on benchmark database with 6GB RAM variant. However, we can expect the company to launch the device in other memory configurations as well. It will boot Android 12 out of the box, but as usual, there would be OneUI skin on top.

Last year, Samsung had launched the same device with Galaxy F22 and Galaxy M22 monikers. So, there is a good chance of same happening this year too. This means, the company could launch the Galaxy F23 5G as the Galaxy M23 5G in some markets.

This is the first time, the handset has appeared on a certification website, so not much is known about the handset. However, we can expect the handset to pop up on other certification websites in the coming weeks.

What are your expectations from upcoming Samsung Galaxy F23 5G and Galaxy M23 5G? Do let us know in the comments below.
