Honor Play Receives 4D Smart Shock Gaming Feature, Call Recording Issue Fix via New OTA Update

Honor’s mid-range Android smartphones focused solely for the use of gaming, the Honor Play is receiving a new software update that fixes the call recording issue reported by some owners and also adds a new feature called 4D Smart Shock to allow for an even more enjoyable gaming experience on the device.

Honor Play: New Software Update Adds 4D Smart Shock, Fixes Call Recording Issue

The new software update for the Honor Play is arriving as version 8.2.0.110 but you may notice the software version getting bumped up to 8.2.0.120 after the installation. Unlike most software updates, the latest update for the Honor Play actually includes two different patches. While the first one (8.2.0.110) brings the latest Google security patch and GPU Turbo fix, the second patch (8.2.0.120) fixes the call recording issue and introduces a new 4D Smart Shock feature. The feature adds intelligent vibrations during gameplay to add to the overall experience. However, the feature currently works only with a select few games, including PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9.

Moving on to optics, the Honor Play has a 16MP + 2MP dual-camera setup at the rear and a 16MP selfie camera on the front. Like other recent Honor and Huawei smartphones, the Honor Play offers intelligent AI-powered scene recognition capable of detecting over 500 scenes. The 16MP selfie camera utilizes pixel binning technology to achieve an impressive 2.0um pixel size. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C port, and Dual 4G VoLTE. The smartphone packs a relatively large 3750mAh capacity battery with fast charging support. Some of the other key features of the Honor Play include a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, AI Face Unlock, and Histen 3D audio technology. The smartphone measures 157.91 x 74.27 x 7.84mm and weighs in at 176 grams. As for software, the Honor Play currently runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo-based EMUI 8.2. It is expected to be updated to Android Pie-based EMUI 9 sometime in 2018 or by early 2019.
