Google Launches Person Finder App to Help Disaster-struck Kerala

Google has recently launched its ‘Person Finder’ tool in India to help flood victims of Kerala. The app is useful in finding people especially in an aftermath of a natural disaster or a crisis situation.

With the help of the Person Finder app from Google, it will become easier to offer information on a missing person and find the location of a loved one. The tool is specifically designed to help find people in times of crisis and disasters. It can be used in two ways; by someone who is looking for a missing person, and in case one has any information regarding a missing person.

Google Person Finder is compatible with all OS and can be used on any PC or smartphones.

How the Google Person Finder Works

To launch the app for use, all you need to do is enter URL http://g.co/pf and select the name of the disaster on the homepage of Google Person Finder. On the disaster’s homepage, you’ll see two tabs with ‘I’m Looking for Someone’ and ‘I have Information about Someone’. Select the option you are looking for and just type in the name of the person concerned. If you have information about someone, you will be directed to a page for details otherwise you’ll receive the safety information concerning the person you are looking for.

The unprecedented rain in the city of Kerala has left many stranded and hundreds dead with 25 people reported dead just in the past 24 hours. Kochi airport regular operations have come to a halt as rescue and relief operations are being carried out by the Army, Navy, NDRF, and other forces. Educational institutions, offices, are all closed while the Railways and Metro operations all are suspended due to heavy rains.

The dams are already overflowing even as reports of more rains from districts of Kochi, Alappuzha, and other parts of the state continue to flow in. The worst affected districts are being supplied with clean drinking water and food packets. Additional NDRF has been mobilized to assist the city’s local administration in its operations.
