MIUI 10 has received 3 beta updates so far and none of them were able to fix the major issues of the software. In the latest development, Xiaomi has released the version 8.8.23 that claims to fix majority bugs ahead of the stable release of the software.
MIUI 10 Global 8.8.23 Beta Update: What’s New?
The earlier update to version 8.8.16 was meant to fix most of the issues in older versions, with Dual Apps and notification issues, in particular. However, it failed to deliver what was promised. Fortunately, the changelog for MIUI 10 8.8.23 confirms that the update will handle the issues the previous could not iron out.
At its official launch, Xiaomi stated that the stable version of MIUI 10 will be rolled out sometime in September. Much ahead of the official launch, the company has rolled out this update to fix major issues. The past three beta updates have been borderline disastrous and one of them ended up getting suspended.
One notable issue in the previous update was the Dual Apps problem, where the second app would crash or failed to re-launch. Also, there have been reports of blanks notifications showing up. Sometimes multiple notifications would show up even when there’s only a single unread text on WhatsApp or Telegram. Other users have also reported broken notifications in Apple Music while others say videos haven’t been playing in full-screen mode. If you have across any of these problems lately, the 8.8.23 is the update to look out for.
MIUI 10 Global 8.8.23 Beta Update: Changelog
Similar to the earlier MIUI 10 beta updates, the latest version 8.8.23 also emphasizes on bug fixes and several other optimizations. The changelog mentions that it brings fixes for the following problems like the wrong status of screen recorder toggle, error in Quick ball texts translation. There is also a fix for the wrong time zone of different cities in the Clock app. One more issue that the previous updates failed to resolve included settings FC when you tap on the “Assist and Voice input” option in the Settings menu of the Mi MIX 2S, The MIUI 10 8.8.23 update of this device is based on the latest Android 9.0 Pie. The update will also fix the overlapping text situation on notifications in Telegram.
The battery indicator also shows charging even after unplugging the charger from the device. The changelog also mentions a fix for that. The other issues that will get a fix with the update include “no push in floating notifications when using third-party apps on Xiaomi Mi 8” and the missing Full-screen option in the Mi Video player.
How to Install the MIUI 10 8.8.23 Update?
The MIUI 10 8.8.23 update will start rolling out over the air on August 23. The download links for manual installation will be published the next day. You can check for the links on the Mi Forum if you don’t receive the update on your device. It is recommended to use the Fastboot method for those running the stable ROM versions of MIUI 7, MIUI 8, or MIUI 9. And for the users, running the Global Beta ROM of MIUI 9 on their devices, the new update will be available for installation in the ‘Updater’ section. Also, you will need to unlock your device’s bootloader prior to flashing the new ROM.
The new update looks promising and it will hopefully fix all the issues mentioned in the changelog. Xiaomi earlier mentioned that it will release the stable version of the MIUI 10 in September. In the meantime, we will have to do with this update. If you happen to own the devices compatible with the beta version MIUI 10, you will be able to run it by August 24.
