Oppo R17 With Waterdrop Notch, AI Dual Camera Goes on First Sale Today in China for Rs.33,000

Popular smartphone maker OPPO introduced its latest R series smartphones, R17 and R17 Pro at an event held in China last week. As announced by the company during the launch event last week, the R17  has gone on sale in China today for the first time. OPPO R17 Pro, on the other hand, is expected to go on sale in the country starting mid-October.

OPPO R17: First Sale in China Today

The OPPO R17 is now available for purchase in China from leading online retailers include JingDong, TMall, and Suning. It is priced at 3,199 yuan (Rs.33,000 approx.) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant, while the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant of the smartphone has been priced at 3,499 yuan (Rs.36,200 approx.). Color options include Twilight Blue, Starry Purple, and Fog Gradient.

OPPO R17: Specifications, Features

The OPPO R17 boasts a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch, 1080 x 2280 Full HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. Along with the R17 Pro, the R17 is the first OPPO smartphone to come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. The R17 and R17 Pro are also the world’s first smartphones to feature Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. Powering the R17 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0 GHz with an Adreno 615 GPU taking care of the graphics processing. In terms of memory, the R17 comes in two configurations – 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. While there is no dedicated microSD card slot for further expansion, the R17 does come with Hybrid Dual-SIM slots, which means users can choose to add a microSD card to expand the storage further by up to 256GB.

In the camera department, OPPO R17 features a 16MP + 5MP dual-camera setup with the primary sensor coupled with an f/1.8 aperture. Thanks to the 5MP secondary depth sensor and an AI Portrait Mode, the R17 allows users to capture impressive looking portrait shots. It is also capable of shooting videos at up to 4K Ultra HD resolution. At the front is a 25MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture, 3D Portrait Lighting, AI beautification modes, and Full HD video capture support. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, Dual 4G VoLTE, and a USB Type-C port. Fueling the OPPO R17 is a 3500mAh capacity non-removable battery with VOOC Flash Charge technology. The smartphone measures 157.5 x 74.9 x 7.5mm and weighs in at 182 grams. It runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.2 out of the box.

OPPO R17 Pro: Specifications, Features

The OPPO R17 Pro is equipped with the same 6.4-inch sized AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch but a slightly higher 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ resolution. Just like the OPPO R17, the R17 Pro features an in-display fingerprint sensor and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. However, the OPPO R17 Pro is powered by a more impressive Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 octa-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz with an Adreno 616 GPU. It comes in just a single memory configuration – 8GB RAM + 128GB storage.

At the rear is a triple-camera setup with a 12MP primary sensor offering an f/1.5-2.4 variable aperture feature, 20MP secondary camera, and a TOF 3D stereo camera. The primary 12MP sensor comes with Dual Pixel PDAF as well as optical image stabilization. For selfies, the R17 Pro has the same 25MP sensor as the R17. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C, and Dual 4G VoLTE. The smartphone packs a slightly larger 3700mAh capacity battery with Super VOOC Flash Charge technology.
