Realme 1 3GB+32GB Memory Variant Discontinued Permanently in India After Oppo Realme 2 Launch

Realme 2

Realme 1 users were upset about the launch of the Realme 2 in just a few months after the Realme 1 was launched in India. The budget handset came in May, and this month, the Make-In-India sub-brand of Oppo launched the Realme 2, which was expected to cost significantly more than the Realme 1, since it comes with several major improvements, but the Realme 2 was launched at a starting price the same as the Realme 1. What happened next is anybody’s guess.

Realme 1 3GB is Dead, Jim

Realme pulled the plug on the base variant of Realme 1, which cost Rs 8,990, the same price as that of the 3GB variant of Realme 2. Suddenly and silently, the Realme 1 base variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage disappeared from the only platform it was available on: Amazon.in.

The company later admitted to a tech news website that the Realme 1 3GB variant has been discontinued, but it still did not make any official statement or announcement for the public about it. Good news is that the Realme 1 is still available in 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM variants, which come with 64GB storage and 128GB storage respectively.

As of now, the 3GB variant of the Realme 1 still shows up on the Amazon page for Realme 1, but if you click on it, the website says the device is ‘currently unavailable’. Don’t be fooled by the mildness in those words; we know for sure that the handset is now permanently unavailable. It’s dead, Jim.

Realme 1, Realme 2: Price in India

The Realme 1 now comes in a base variant of 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, at Rs 10,990, and is available on Amazon.in. The larger memory variant comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage, and costs Rs 13,9990. You can stretch the storage to 256GB on both options.

The Realme 2 is also coming in two memory variants only, but there is no 6GB RAM variant here. The handset will go on sale on September 4 at Flipkart only, and will sell for Rs 8,990 in 3GB RAM option, and Rs 10,990 in 4GB RAM option. The storage will be the same as Realme 1, i.e. 32GB internal storage for 3GB RAM and 64GB storage for the 4GB RAM variant.

A moment of silence for Realme 1 buyers (3GB and 4GB RAM), please.

Realme 1, Realme 2: Specifications

The Realme 1 and Realme 2 both come with IPS LCD displays, but the Realme 1 gets a 6-inch display while the Realme 2 gets a taller 6.2-inch notched display. However, the Realme 1 gets only HD resolution (720x1520p) with 271 pixels per inch while the Realme 1 gets a better Full HD+ resolution (1080x2160p) with 402 ppi. The Realme 2 on the other hand gets a Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which is not seen on the Realme 1.

Both run the ColorOS 5 user interface based on Android 8.1 Oreo, and get a dedicated third slot for memory card. They are, however, powered by two different but mid-range chipsets. The Realme 1 gets a Mediatek Helio P60 SoC with 2.0GHz frequency while the Realme 2 gets a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor.

Camera wise, both get an 8MP selfie shooter, but the one on the Realme 2 has large 1.12-micrometre pixels and HDR mode. The rear camera on the Realme 1 is 13MP with LED flash whereas the Realme 2 gets a 13MP+2MP dual rear camera with LED flash. Both handsets get 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 4.2, microUSB 2.0, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, A-GPS, and USB on-the-go.

In the battery department, the Realme 2 is better equipped with a 4,230 mAh battery while the Realme 1 packs a 3,410 mAh unit.
