A few weeks back, Xiaomi had pushed out a new software update for the entry-level Redmi 5A with the May Android security patch. The company has now rolled out another minor software update for the smartphone, arriving as MIUI 9.6.2.0.NCKMIFD.

The MIUI 9.6.2.0.NCKMIFD update for the Redmi 5A is now rolling out in India via the OTA route. It weighs in at 266 MB in terms of size and comes with a few new features. Some of the highlights include the ability to uninstall apps in the Settings app, deleted shortcuts, for moving data and managing second space, optimized Themes for 18:9 aspect ratio displays, new beginner’s guide, and a confirmation dialog for deleting Quick apps from home screen. Additionally, you will also be able to scroll horizontally in Mi Apps and hide the shortcut to second space in Settings. Apart from the new features, the update brings some minor bug fixes as well. If you have received this update on your device, we recommend that you install it only when your device has sufficient battery charge. If your Redmi 5A is running low on battery, you must plug it in to make sure it has around 60% charge left before you proceed to install the software update.

The Redmi 5A is available in two memory configurations in the Indian market. Priced at Rs.5,999, the more affordable variant comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. If you want more RAM and storage, you can opt for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant of the Redmi 5A, which retails at Rs.6,999. Color options include Blue, Dark Grey, Gold, and Rose Gold.

The entry-level Xiaomi Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch 720 x 1280 HD resolution display with 296 PPI pixel density and a claimed static contrast ratio of 1000:1. Like other Xiaomi smartphones, the Redmi 5A offers a Reading mode as well as color temperature adjustment. The smartphone runs on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset clocked at 1.4 GHz with an Adreno 308 GPU clocked at 500 MHz.
