Vodafone Launches Rs.99 and Rs.109 Prepaid Recharge Plans: Offers Unlimited Calling, Data Benefits

After the launch of its Active Recharge Pack, Vodafone has not been in the news a lot. Its recent partner Idea Cellular has instead been busy announcing new prepaid tariff plans. But now we know why Vodafone had remained quiet. It was busy organising the launch of two new prepaid plans; Rs.109 and Rs.99. Both these plans offer unlimited voice calling benefit. But only the Rs.109 prepaid plan offers 1GB data.

Vodafone New Prepaid Plans: Rs.99 and Rs.109

Vodafone recently added two new prepaid plans under its tariff portfolio. These plans have been launched to compete against the 28-day plans on offer from both Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. The Jio Rs.98 plan offers 2GB data, unlimited voice calling, and SMS benefits to its users for 28 days.

In comparison, the Rs.99 prepaid plan of Vodafone is giving its users unlimited voice STD, roaming, and local calls for 28 days. While the Rs.109 plan offers the same voice benefit along with 1GB data. But Vodafone call benefit is not really unlimited. Like Idea, the telco had limited its daily calls to 250 minutes, while the weekly limit is capped at 1,000 minutes. Also, the subscriber can call only 100 unique numbers for the plan’s entire validity of 28 days.

Vodafone’s Target Audience

Vodafone has launched these plans to bring in customers that need only voice calling benefits. That is the reason the Rs.99 plan offers no data benefit and even the Rs.109 plan comes with only 1GB of data. But Vodafone is losing out to Jio and Airtel because of the limitations placed on daily and weekly calling minutes. But is expected that once the telecom operator gains VoLTE coverage across India, these caps will be removed by it.

Vodafone Rs.109 Prepaid Plan vs Reliance Jio Rs.98 Plan

The Rs.99 prepaid plan from Vodafone is a voice-only plan, thus, it is the Rs.109 plan that can be compared to Reliance Jio Rs.98 plan. For Rs.98, Jio subscriber gets a bundled plan that offers 2GB 4G data, unlimited by FUP, unlimited voice call, and 300 SMS for 28 days. Vodafone Rs.109 plan is incomparable because it offers only 1GB data, sanctioned unlimited call benefits, and no SMS benefit at all.

Vodafone Rs.99 Prepaid Plan vs BSNL Rs.99 Plan

State-owned telco BSNL is not leaving any stone unturned to compete with private telecommunication operators in terms of tariffs and benefits offered to its subscribers. That is why Vodafone has one more telco against whom its Rs.99 prepaid plan will be compared.

Just like Vodafone, BSNL’s Rs.99 prepaid plan is a voice-only plan for the same duration. But here too Vodafone loses because of the limitations it placed on voice calling minutes because BSNL has no such restriction. The only limitation that BSNL faces is that it has no operational circle in cities of Mumbai and Delhi. It is because the other state-owned telco MTNL operates in those circles.

Idea Cellular Unifying the Pricing Portfolio

Since the merger, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular are busy simplifying their tariff portfolios. They are introducing plans that exist in the other’s menu. These plans will then be merged together to operate under the newly formed entity Vodafone Idea Ltd. Therefore, it is expected that now that Vodafone has launched these two new prepaid plans for Rs.99 and for Rs.109, Idea Cellular too will launch them shortly so that it can match the Vodafone offer.
