Xiaomi’s plans of releasing an Android Go smartphone have been known for a while. The brand even confirmed the existence of this so-called ‘Redmi Go’ just a few days ago. Well, the smartphone has finally been released and is up for pre-orders right now. However, it is slightly disappointing that the phone has only been released in the Philippines for now. A Philippines e-retail site that goes by the name Lazada has the Redmi Go smartphone up for pre-orders right now. It has been priced at PHP 3,990, which roughly translates to INR 5,500. The phone is available in two color options, Blue and Black. Furthermore, Xiaomi is going to give out free Mi In-Ear Headphones Basic to those who preorder the smartphone between January 31 to February 3, 2019. However, only the first 2000 customers will be able to avail this offer. Shipments of pre-ordered units for the Redmi Go shall commence from February 5. With the release of this phone in the Philippines, its launch in India should not be far behind.

Xiaomi Redmi Go Specifications

The pre-order page for the Redmi Go also provides a full listing of its specifications. The display on this smartphone measures 5-inches. This is an HD (1280 x 720) resolution display that offers an aspect ratio of 16:9. The bezels are slightly larger than modern smartphone design, but you do get physical capacitive navigation buttons. Xiaomi points out this screen, and the overall small form-factor of the device itself makes it ideal for one-handed use. Moving on to the phone’s processor, we find a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 running the show. This chipset has been paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. A notable feature here is that the phone offers a dedicated SIM 2 try right beside the first SIM 1 + microSD card slot. An additional 128GB can be added to the smartphone using this dedicated tray.

For imaging, the Redmi Go offers an 8MP shooter at the back, while a 5MP sensor has been given at the front for selfies. Considering this is an Android Go device, it ships with an extremely lightweight version of Android 8.1 Oreo. As for the battery, the phone will come with a 3000mAh cell that charges over microUSB port. This combination of an optimized chipset, lightweight software, and a relatively sizeable battery is said to offer up to 11 days of standby time. Furthermore, the phone gets a 3.5mm headphone jack just beside the bottom firing loudspeaker. There are even two microphones provided to ensure background noise can be mitigated during calls.
