Lenovo-owned Motorola has announced a successor to the Motorola E5 from 2018. The new handset is called the Moto E6 (obviously) and packs a slew of upgrades over the outgoing model. The phone was officially announced by Motorola for the US market where it has been priced just below the $150 mark. This translates to around INR 10,000. In the US, the E5 is touted as an alternative to what Motorola describes as “low quality” handsets sold by competing vendors for the same price. Let us now dive quickly into the spec sheet of the Moto E6.
Motorola Moto E6 specifications, key features
The Moto E6, being a basic handset, comes with entry-level specs. The phone uses a standard IPS LCD panel that measures 5.5-inches. This panel has a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels in the 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is offered in two versions; a base 2GB+16GB variant and a pricier 3GB+32GB option with both these variants getting a microSD card slot for additional memory. Powering the Moto E6 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC that houses an octa-core processor. This SoC is based on a 28nm manufacturing process and also houses the Adreno 505 GPU for graphics. Depending on the market you buy the handset from, the Moto E6 is offered in a single SIM or a dual SIM option. Keeping all this hardware powered is a large 3,000 mAh removable battery with no support for fast charging. Motorola also claims that the Moto E6 has a water repellent body thanks to a P2i nano-coating. While the handset is certainly not IP certified for water and dust ingression, it should be more than capable of handing light rain and small spillages.
Motorola Moto E6 Camera and imaging
The primary camera setup on the Moto E6 consists of a single 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture. This primary camera supports PDAF and also supports HDR. The handset is capable of recording 1080p 30fps vide using this sensor. For low light situations, the handset also gets an LED flash. At the front, the Moto E6 gets by with a single 5-megapixel fixed focus camera with an aperture f/2.0. The front-facing camera should be more than capable of handling video calls and an occasional selfie.
Motorola Moto E6 Pricing and Availability
Motorola, as of now, has announced the Moto E6 for the US market where it is currently on sale via Verizon. The phone will be subsequently also available in via T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, Boost Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Consumer Cellular, and Xfinity Mobile. Unlocked versions of the handset will go on sale later this year via Amazon.com and at Best Buy, B&H Photo and Walmart. The handset will also be on sale in Canada later this year. The price of the unlocked version of the Moto E6 starts at 149.99 USD.
