Weekly poll results: Realme 5 Pro is a hit, steals the spotlight from the Realme 5

Realme has a future best-seller on its hands - but not two of them. The Realme 5 Pro got a very positive reception in last week's poll - people are happy with the upgrades over the Realme 3 Pro, which launched earlier this year at the same price. The upgrades are mostly in the camera department - going up to a 48MP sensor for the main camera and adding an ultra wide and dedicated macro cameras. The selfie camera dropped in resolution (25MP to 16MP), but the new sensor has larger pixels (0.8µm to 1.0µm). Added splash resistance and a slightly overclocked chipset just about cover...

Flashback: the Motorola ROKR E1 was a dud, but it paved the way for the iPhone

Apple began life as a hardware company, selling desktop computers and then adding laptops to its roster. But in 2001 the company started its long journey to becoming a media distribution company - a journey that saw the launch of Apple Music in 2015 and will welcome Apple TV+ later this year. In 2001 Apple released iTunes to the world and a few months later the very first iPod followed. Those two products revitalized the waning company and grew quickly. In 2005 Apple had a commanding 75% share of digital music sales and 80% of MP3 player sales. With over 20 million iPods sold, Steve...

Videos in Google Play Store listings will autoplay starting next month

The Google Play Store recently got a blindingly white redesign, and starting next month, you may find it a bit more annoying. Why? Because it will start playing promo videos in the app listings automatically. Google says the videos in the app listings will be played automatically "to help more users discover your content at a glance". However, this decision may not go well with some app developers as the Internet search giant has said that developers will have to disable monetization in these videos which are pulled from YouTube. The developers have time until October 31, 2019 to...

OnePlus TV is an Android TV with built-in Chromecast

OnePlus has revealed just a little bit more about its plans for their upcoming TV. According to a statement released by the company, OnePlus TV is an Android TV with built-in Chromecast. The company also said that the TV will come with Google’s Play Store baked in, with the goal of elevating the smart TV experience in India. The company had already revealed the official logo, confirming that a TV was on the way.

OnePlus has apparently been working closely with Google in its aim to be the company that provides a connected home solution for all. Towards this end, the OnePlus TV will support Google Assistant, built-in  Chromecast and thus, will allow users to access their favourite media, get answers from Google on-screen like weather updates, manage tasks like seeing your calendar, and control smart home devices; all with their voice.

Vikas Agarwal, General Manager, OnePlus India said, “These past five years have been about constant exploration, diving deep into how best we can use technology and innovation and Google has been strategic to us in India since the beginning, furthering our efforts towards our goal. Now, as we venture into newer segments with OnePlus TV, we are very excited to bring together our collective knowledge by extending that work. We believe that with our combined expertise, we can move ever closer to improve the human experience through simplicity, efficiency, and intelligent functionality.”

OnePlus hopes to provide a connected solution for the homes of the future and are working closely with Google to close the gaps that currently exist. It is interesting to see OnePlus pivot from being a “smartphone company” to a “smart devices” company. The OnePlus TV is the next highly anticipated device from the company that started with the goal of “never settle.”

There aren’ many official details available about the upcoming OnePlus TV, but we expect it to be a 55-inch QLED panel with 4K resolution. The TV is also said to be India Exclusive and will go on sale on Amazon.in once it is announced.

Apple iPhone trio details leak, may support reverse wireless charging and Apple Pencil

With just ten more days to go before their official announcement, it would appear that the specifications for the iPhone trio have leaked in full. The three phones will be called the Apple iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max. This is in line with previous rumours that suggested that Apple would go with the Pro moniker for this year’s iPhones.

The first phone in this year’s lineup is rumoured to be the iPhone 11, the direct successor to the iPhone XR. According to the leaked specs, it would come with a 6.1-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1792x828. The phone is expected to sport a glass design and come packing a 3110mAh battery. This time around, rumours suggest that the iPhone 11 would come with dual 12-megapixel cameras on the rear.

The next is the Pro duo, the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. These phones are expected to have a 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED display respectively. Camera duties will be spread across three shooters, each with a 12megapixel sensor, although we’re not sure what the lens configuration will be like. An educated guess points towards the possibility of Apple finally adding an ultra-wide-angle lens to its existing camera stack. The two Pro models are expected to bring support for the Apple Pencil, reverse wireless charging and a frost glass design.

Sadly, the iPhone 11 won’t get reverse charging or the Apple Pencil support, but all three phones, according to the leak, will support WiFi 6. While the iPhone 11 will sport 4GB RAM and the Pro models 6GB of RAM, all three phones will be powered by Apple’s new A13 SoC.

Apple’s keynote is scheduled for September 10, according to the invite that the company had sent out a few days earlier. We have come to expect leaks to be more or less reliable so close to the launch. However, it is best to take everything with a pinch of salt and wait to hear everything from the horse’s mouth directly on September 10.

Samsung Galaxy A90 leak suggests 5G support

Samsung has been rather ambitious abut its smartphone roadmap this year, having launched as many phones this year as months. After announcing the Samsung Galaxy A80, and bringing it to market a little later than expected, rumuors around the next phone in the A-series have started to pick up. It would appear that the next product in the A-series will be the Samsung Galaxy A90 and will support 5G.

Twitter user @mmddj_ has tweeted official-looking slides that allegedly promote the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G. The image shows a white colour smartphone with a triple camera setup on the back aligned vertically to the left. This means that the rotating concept for the camera is not making a comeback no the A90 5G.

The Samsung Galaxy A90 5G is rumoured to be a 6.7-inch smartphone with an AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution. The primary camera on the back is expected to be a 48MP shooter, accompanied by an 8MPO ultra-wide camera and a third 5MP sensor which is likely to be for collecting depth information.

What is really interesting is that based on a Geekbench listing, the Samsung Galaxy A90 would be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, making it the most powerful smartphone in the A-series. If this is indeed true, this would be the first Samsung smartphone to be sold globally with a flagship QUALCOMM SoC, given that Samsung’s flagship phones ship with Exynos in most countries around the world. Samsung could be going with the Snapdragon 855 chipset for the 5G radio compatibility.

As of now, there is no official word on when the Samsung Galaxy A90 would be making its way to the market.

Realme XT Specifications and Features Detailed Ahead of Launch in India

Realme, as of last night, has made the Realme XT official, making it the first 64MP camera smartphone in the world. No, there wasn’t any launch event as such to announce the smartphone. Realme just sent the smartphone to media publications and lifted the embargo to publish specifications of the device, which made the device official.

There’s a reason why Realme rushed to make the Realme XT official. As most of you might know, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 8 Pro in China today, which, also features a 64MP camera. And it would have been the first 64MP camera smartphone in the world. Well, Realme wanted to take that trophy for itself, which is why the brand rushed to make the Realme XT official last night.

Although the brand has launched the Realme XT, it did not reveal pricing and availability details yet. The specifications, however, are out. The Realme XT is basically the Realme 5 Pro, but with a 64MP rear camera instead of a 48MP unit, and an OLED display instead of an IPS LCD. Let now us check out what the device has to offer.

Realme XT Specifications

The Realme XT features a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution. The display features a V-shaped notch at the top and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. There is also an in-display fingerprint scanner, making the Realme XT one of the most affordable smartphones to offer one.

The USP of the Realme XT, however, is its quad-camera setup at the rear. It is the first device in the world to feature a 64MP camera. Along with it, there is an 8MP ultrawide camera, 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. The 64MP sensor combines four pixels into one to produce a 16MP final image. The pixel-binning, in theory, should offer improved lowlight image quality. The primary camera can record 4K videos. As for the selfies, the Realme XT comes equipped with a 16MP front-facing camera.

Powering the smartphone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 SoC. This chipset is made on 10nm fabrications process and features eight Kryo 360 cores and Adreno 616 GPU. There are three memory configurations on offer – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, 6GB RAM + 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. The device comes loaded with Android 9 Pie OS with ColorOS 6 customization. The smartphone is backed by a 4035mAh battery supporting 20W VOOC 3.0 fast charging. Connectivity options include USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, dual-SIM, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, and Bluetooth v5.0.

OnePlus 7T, 7T Pro India Launch Tipped for September 26, Here’re the Leaked Specifications

Ishan Agarwal in collaboration with Pricebaba has revealed it on Twitter that OnePlus will launch the OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus 7T Pro smartphones on 26th September in Delhi, India. Along with that they’ve also revealed the key specifications of the OnePlus 7T and its render image. Let us check them out.

OnePlus 7T Will Feature 6.55-inch Super AMOLED Display with 90Hz Refresh Rate; Will Be Available in Two Color Options

According to Ishan Agarwal, the display of the OnePlus 7T will be a 6.55-inch Super AMOLED unit with QHD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. Unfortunately, the display is said to have a notch after all. Although it will be a smaller notch, Ishan claims. And when it comes to aesthetics, Ishan says that the OnePlus 7T will be available in two color variants – Frosted Silver, and Haze Blue. If OnePlus’ design history is anything to go by, I am sure that both color variants will look gorgeous.

There Will Be 48MP + 16MP + 12MP Rear Cameras, And A 16MP Front-Facing Camera

As for the rear cameras, Ishan says that there will be three of them – 48MP, 16MP, and 12MP. He hasn’t revealed the functions/viewing-angles of these cameras. However, in my opinion, the 48MP sensor will be a primary camera, the 16MP sensor will be an ultrawide unit, and the 12MP unit might be a telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom.  This camera setup is said to feature 960FPS slow-motion video recording, wide-angle video recording, and a Nightscape mode. The front-facing camera, according to the tweet, will be a 16MP unit.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC And A 3800mAh Battery Under the Hood

When it comes to performance, Ishan claims that the OnePlus 7T will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC. This chipset is a slightly upgraded variant of the Snapdragon 855 that is in the OnePlus 7. According to Qualcomm, the 855 Plus has 4% improvement in CPU performance and 15% improvement in GPU performance. The device is said to come in two memory configurations – 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. If the tweet is to be believed, the OnePlus 7T will have a 3800mAh battery, which is 100mAh more than the 3700mAh unit in the OnePlus 7.  The device will most probably carry over the 20W Dash Charge fast charging from its predecessor.

Redmi Note 8 Pro with 64MP Camera, MediaTek Helio G90T SoC Launched in China: Price, Features

Along with the Redmi Note 8, Xiaomi has also launched the Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone in China today. The Redmi Note 8 Pro comes as the successor to the Redmi Note 7 Pro that was launched earlier this year. And this new smartphone brings a huge upgrade over its predecessor in every manner, including processing power, camera, battery capacity, build quality, and design. Here is everything you need to know about the Redmi Note 8 Pro.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro Price

The Redmi Note 8 Pro comes in three variants in China. The base variant carries a price tag of CNY 1,399 and comes with 6GB RAM + 64GB storage. The second variant is priced at CNY 1,599, and it packs 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. For the top of the line variant, which packs 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, you’ll have to shell out CNY 1,799. Currently, the first sale date of the Redmi Note 8 Pro is unknown. Indian availability details of the smartphone haven’t been announced either.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro Specifications

While the Redmi Note 7 Pro came with a 6.3-inch screen, the Redmi Note 8 Pro packs a slightly larger, 6.53-inch IPS LCD. Compared to the predecessor, the Redmi Note 8 Pro has thinner bezels, which has allowed it to have a higher screen to body ratio. Xiaomi has also shifted from the U-shaped notch in the last generation Redmi devices, to a V-shaped notch in the Redmi Note 8 series. In terms of protection, the Redmi Note 8 Pro carries forward the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 from its predecessor.

As most of you might know, the Redmi Note 7 Pro was the first smartphone in its segment to offer a 48MP sensor. And at that time, the sensor resolution of Redmi Note 7 Pro was way ahead than that of any smartphone camera. The Redmi Note 8 Pro has taken the sensor resolution to the next level; the smartphone features a jaw-dropping 64MP primary camera at the rear. That’s not all, the rear camera setup now also features an 8MP ultrawide sensor, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor, making for a total of four rear cameras. If you aren’t already satisfied with it, the rear primary camera in the Redmi Note 8 Pro can also record videos at 960 frames per second, apart from 4K videos, of course. Xiaomi has gone ahead and upgraded the front-facing camera as well. You now get a 20MP sensor for selfies.

There is a huge upgrade in terms of performance, as well. The Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with MediaTek Helio G90T SoC. I am not very fond of MediaTek chipsets, as they usually tend to offer a slow performance, but if the benchmarks are to be believed, the G90T performs pretty well; better than the Snapdragon 730 according to the brand. The brand has also put a liquid cooling chamber in the Redmi Note 8 Pro, which, according to Xiaomi, should offer four to six degrees temperature reduction under load. This means the processor will throttle lesser, and lead to improved sustained performance. Xiaomi has equipped the Redmi Note 8 Pro with a massive, 4500mAh battery. The extra 500mAh power compared to its predecessor should offer significantly better backup. You also get 18W charging. And if that wasn’t enough already, the device supports three fast-charging protocols – Quick Charge 4+, MediaTek Pump Express, and USB Power Delivery.

Coming to the build quality, the Redmi Note 8 Pro features Corning Gorilla Glass 5 back panel. And there’s dust and splash resistance as well. At the bottom, there is a USB Type-C port and a speaker grill. About the speaker, Xiaomi says that it now outputs more volume than before (compared to the one in Redmi Note 7 Pro). In terms of security, the Redmi Note 8 Pro has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, which, according to Xiaomi, is 30% smaller than the one in Redmi Note 7 Pro, but is said to offer even faster unlocking speeds. Connectivity options include dual-SIM, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth v5.0, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
