OPPO Reno 2, Reno 2Z, Reno 2F Launched in India with Up to 8GB RAM, 48MP Camera: Price, Features

A few days ago, we exclusively revealed that Oppo is all set to launch three new smartphones in India. And today finally, the brand has launched those three smartphones in the country – the Reno 2, Reno 2Z, and the Reno 2F. The Oppo Reno 2 is the costliest of the lot, followed by the Reno 2Z, and the Reno 2F. These three smartphones are not successors to the Reno and the Reno 10X Zoom, but they are more affordable versions. Here is everything you need to know about the Reno 2, Reno 2Z, and the Reno 2F, including their price in India, availability, and specifications.

Oppo Reno 2, Oppo Reno 2Z, Oppo Reno 2F — Price in India, Availability

Oppo has launched the Reno 2 in India in only one memory configuration – 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. And it costs INR 36,990. The smartphone will be available starting September 20, and you can grab one from major online and offline stores.

Moving on to the Reno 2Z, it costs INR 29,990. However, we don’t know which variant will carry this price tag as Oppo hasn’t mentioned it clearly. The Reno 2Z will go on sale starting 6th September through major online and offline stores.

As for the Reno 2F, Oppo has neither revealed its variant information, nor its pricing. According to Oppo, the Reno 2F will be available starting November.

Oppo Reno 2 Specifications

To start, Oppo Reno 2 features a shark-fin pop-up camera mechanism at the top, just like that on the Reno and the Reno 10X Zoom. This has allowed Oppo to offer a completely bezel-less display, free from any kind of a notch or a punch-hole. The display is a 6.55-inch AMOLED unit with Full HD+ resolution. There is a Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection over the display. Moreover, you get an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The Reno series is all about camera performance. And the Reno being the costliest of the three, features pretty decent camera hardware. It comes with four rear cameras – a 48MP primary sensor, a 13MP telephoto sensor, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor. So, you can take photos in all kind of angles with the Oppo Reno 2. The 48MP primary camera features Ultra Dark Mode, which is an improved version of Night Mode that is the Reno and the Reno 10X Zoom. When it comes to video recording, the primary camera features OIS, as well as, EIS, which Oppo claims to offer “Ultra Steady Videos.” The video recording supports bokeh effect as well. Then comes the telephoto camera, which, according to Oppo, offers 5x Hybrid Zoom. As for the selfies, the smartphone gets the same 16MP unit that is in the Reno and the Reno 10X Zoom.

Coming to the performance, the Reno 2 packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset, which sits just below the Snapdragon 855 SoC in the Qualcomm’s current line-up of mobile chipsets. This chipset has eight Kryo 470 cores and Adreno 618 GPU. As for the OS, it is the Android 9 Pie with ColorOS 6 customization. Powering the smartphone is a 4000mAh battery, and it supports the same 20W VOOC 3.0 fast charging, that we’ve seen in many other Oppo and Realme devices so far. Connectivity options in the Reno 2 include dual-SIM with dual-4G and dual-VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Also, worth mentioning is that the Reno 2 has a Corning Gorilla 5 back panel.

Oppo Reno 2Z Specifications

Even the Oppo Reno 2Z comes with a Shark-fin pop-up camera mechanism at the top to offer a completely bezel-less display without any notch or a punch-hole. The display, however, is a tad smaller than that of the Reno 2 – it is a 6.53-inch unit with Full HD+ resolution. The display protection has also been downscaled to Corning Gorilla 5 from the Corning Gorilla Glass 6 in the Reno 2.

Unlike the Reno 2 which uses a Qualcomm chipset, the Reno 2Z comes powered by the MediaTek Helio P90 SoC. This one has four Cortex-A73 cores, four Cortex-A53 cores, and PowerVR GM 9446 GPU. The chipset runs Android 9 OS with ColorOS 6 UI on top. The device has the same 4000mAh battery pack supporting 20W VOOC 3.0 fast charging that’s in the Reno 2. Connectivity options remain the same as well – dual-SIM with dual-4G and dual-VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth v5.0, 3.5mm audio jack, and USB Type-C port.

In terms of camera, the Reno 2Z takes a slightly different approach compared to the Reno 2. It has the same 48MP primary camera (except for OIS) and an 8MP ultrawide unit as the Reno 2, but this one misses out on a telephoto lens. Instead, you get an additional 2MP sensor, making a total of two 2MP sensors. According to Oppo, the first 2MP sensor is a macro camera, and the second 2MP unit is a depth-sensor. The primary camera here features Ultra Night Mode for enhanced lowlight images and it also has Ultra Steady Video feature. The front-facing camera is the same 16MP unit that’s in the Reno 2.

Oppo Reno 2F Specifications

The Oppo Reno 2F being the most affordable of the lot, misses out on a few features that the Reno 2 and the Reno 2Z offer. Starting with the design, this one skips the shark-fin pop-up camera mechanism in favor of a more traditional, center-aligned pop-up camera module. This is the same one that we’ve seen in the Realme X. The Second downgrade is that the screen lacks an in-display fingerprint scanner. Instead, you get a traditional, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Speaking of the display, it is the same 6.53-inch unit that’s in the Reno 2Z; it features Full HD+ resolution and Corning Gorilla 5 protection.

Coming to the camera, the Reno 2F has the same 48MP primary + 8MP ultrawide + 2MP macro + 2MP depth-sensor quad-camera setup as the Reno 2Z. However, there one slight difference between the primary camera of the Reno 2F and the Reno 2Z. The one in the Reno 2F is Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 sensor instead of the Sony IMX586 in the Reno 2Z. Rest of the rear camera specifications remain the same including 4K video recording and Ultra Steady Videos. Although the pop-up module is different than that of the other two smartphones, the camera sensor remains the same – a 16MP unit.

When it comes to performance, the Reno 2F features MediaTek Helio P70 processor, which is a trimmed-down version of the Helio P90 that’s in the Reno 2Z. The chipset has four Cortex-A73 cores, four Cortex-A53 cores, and Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. The OS, as you might expect, is the Android 9 Pie with ColorOS 6 UI on top. Like the other two smartphones, the Reno 2F also comes with a 4000mAh battery supporting 20W VOOC 3.0 fast charging. Connectivity options don’t see a change either, compared to the other two smartphones. You get dual-SIM with dual-4G and dual-VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth v5.0, 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB Type-C port.
