Minister of Earth Sciences Harsh Vardhan launched a mobile application on Monday called Mausam that will provide weather forecasts, nowcasts and other warnings for city ways.
The mobile application, Mausam, was jointly designed and developed by the Semi-Arid Tropics International Crops Research Institute (ICRISAT), the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
Users can browse radar images and provide early warnings about possible weather events. The app is currently available for download on both the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.

The app forecasts weather conditions for around 450 cities, showing the weather conditions of the past 24 hours and 7 days.
This will also provide nowcasts for local weather events, three-hour warnings, and their severity for around 800 stations and districts. The warning also involves its effect in the event of extreme weather.
Apart from this, as a warning in case of approaching hazardous weather, warnings will be issued twice a day for all districts in color code (red, orange and yellow) for the next five days to notify residents.
