Indian Govt has blocked 47 more Chinese devices, allegedly clones of the 59 previously banned applications. India has recently drawn up a list of 275 more Chinese games, with PUBG Mobile as the most popular one.
Despite of their deep-rooted association with Tencent, games like Call of Duty: Mobile, Clash of Clans, and Clash Royale are undoubtedly on the list.
According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiTY), these are clones / variants of the already banned 59 apps, such as Tiktok Lite, Helo Lite, SHAREit Lite, BIGO LIVE Lite and VFY Lite, and there are no additional banned apps.
According to China’s National Intelligence Law of 2017, when requested by the government, Chinese businesses will share all the information.
And the Indian government has an excellent excuse to search the Chinese apps for any possible threats considering the current conflict between India and China.
Indian Govt will examine for any breach of national security and user privacy, signaling increased scrutiny and the prospect of banning more Chinese Internet companies in the region.
One such app is the extremely popular PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) in the country. The app boasts more than 175 million downloads in India alone, though the app has also been criticized for its addictive nature.
The government, however, is considering a ban on the battle royale style game over data security concerns.
There is no official comment on the development yet from the Union Home Ministry. The government is also reportedly examining the funding and flow of data from Indian users to Chinese agencies for these apps.
