POCO F2 is probably the most hyped smartphone that fans have been waiting for. Xiaomi launched the POCO F1 in August 2018 as a flagship performer. It has been nearly three years since POCO launched the POCO F2. Fans have bombarded various social media platforms asking about the POCO F2 launch date or even the POCO F2 specifications. The wait for the F2 could soon be over. POCO F2 could possibly launch as a rebranded version of the Redmi K40 globally. Why and how do we make that assumption? Here’s all you need to know about the POCO F2 launching as a rebranded variant of the Redmi K40 globally.
POCO F2 could launch as rebranded Redmi K40 in international markets
POCO F1 was launched as a flagship performer in 2018. It came with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 flagship processor and was priced at Rs 20,999. For the price, the smartphone offered the best value and performance. It is 2021 and we are yet to see a POCO F1-successor. The much-anticipated F2 could soon launch as a rebranded Redmi K40 in international markets, including India.
The Redmi K40 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC. While it is not the best of what Qualcomm has to offer, and is slower than the top-end Snapdragon 888 SoC, the 870 still offers flagship-grade performance. For all intents and purposes, it is a SD865++.
But Xiaomi and Poco have separated. How can POCO launch a Xiaomi phone?
Well, Poco has had a history of launching rebranded Redmi phones in international markets. The POCO F2 Pro was a rebranded Redmi K30 Pro that came with the Snapdragon 865 processor.
It is possible that the Redmi K40 will launch as a POCO F2 or even POCO F3 to maintain the nomenclature in the company portfolio. The Redmi K30 was also launched as the POCO X2 in select markets, including India.
POCO India’s country manager Anuj Sharma recently confirmed that the F2, if ever launched, will get a flagship processor and not something from the Snapdragon 7xx series found on the likes of POCO X3.
If the company does decide to launch the F3 series globally as a rebranded Redmi K40 series, it is possible that the Redmi K40 Pro/ Pro+ could launch as the POCO F3 Pro. It would then launch the Redmi K40 as the F3 to maintain the nomenclature. Which means that we could never see a Poco F2. Wow, that’d be something.
What adds to our presumption are the various listings on certification websites. The Singapore Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) certification showed that the Redmi K40 was certified as a POCO smartphone. The device with the model number M2012K11AG also received an Indonesian Telecom certification, hinting at an imminent launch. The device has also received a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification, according to a GizmoChina report.
All these hints and certifications do lead to the speculation of the POCO F2/ F3 launching soon in India and other markets as the rebranded Redmi K40.
