Honor announced the Honor 50 Pro last month with 100W charging, and it appears its former owner Huawei will follow suit soon since a 100W Huawei charger (20V@5A) with model code HW-200500C00 has been certified by China's 3C. We don't know when Huawei will launch a smartphone with 100W charging, but since its 100W adapter has bagged 3C certification, we should soon hear about a Huawei device that will charge at up to 100W. The freshly announced Huawei P50 and P50 Pro go up to 66W, with the latter also supporting 50W wireless charging. You can read our Huawei P50 series announcement...

Say hello to the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G, the latest arrival at HQ. It's got several differences to the 4G-only Samsung Galaxy A52, which we reviewed in March, even though the colors match. The biggest differences are that the 5G model gets faster 120Hz refresh rate on its 6.5-inch Super AMOLED and that is has a 5G-ready Snapdragon 750G in place of the Snapdragon 720G of the 4G model. For the €450 starting price, the unboxing is underwhelming. You get a SIM tool, a USB cable and a 15W charger. That's one slow charger and no case, but that's also the norm with Samsung's A...

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 is reportedly all set to launch in August and previous rumors suggest that the handset will launch with the company's MIUI 13 software. In fact, it was believed that the event would not only be about the handset but about the new version of the OS too. However, Xiaomi's PR, Wang Hua, disproved those claims by saying that developers are still working on polishing out the user experience, which also happens to be the main focus of the new MIUI 13. It will take some time before Xiaomi announces MIUI 13, that's for sure. This information is in line with Digital Chat...

A recent tweet revealed some spicy details around the upcoming S Pen Pro - Samsung's stylus that can be used with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold3. Interestingly, the post went unnoticed for days but it comes from a fairly reliable source. The active stylus is said to feature a thin 0.7mm tip that shouldn't damage the handset's foldable screen, supports 4096 pressure levels and charges over USB-C, which is kind of unexpected. Of course, the S Pen Pro will be sold separately and will attach magnetically onto compatible cases. The post ends with an estimated price of £70 in the UK. For...

Dark Mode on OLED Android phones may not have as big an impact on your phone’s battery as you’d think. According to a new research by Purdue University, Dark Mode only has a significant impact when a user switches from the standard light interface to the dark one at close to 100 percent brightness. However, in a majority of other cases where the mean brightness is kept at around 30-50 percent, the switch to Dark Mode barely yields a battery boost of 3 to 9 percent.
To measure this, the researchers chose six fairly common apps — Calculator, Google Maps and YouTube among them, and picked devices such as the Pixel 5 and the Moto Z3 to test them on. The team then devised its own measuring device called the Per Frame OLED Power Profiler, or PFOP. This seemingly revealed that the battery power gain when switching from light to dark mode on an average Android phone on auto brightness is about 3 to 9 percent only — something that does not reflect a huge gain in battery life.
Given that most of us are unlikely to use our phones at peak brightness at all times, this somewhat suggests that most promotional material suggesting Dark Mode to be a big benefit for battery life is not quite as true. To reflect this aptly, the researchers have built a tool called Android Battery Plus, which it now plans to submit to the Android Open Source Project. It also plans to make the PFOP tool open source, so that it becomes more accessible for all to see the real impact on battery life.
Apart from the big pitch on battery life, dark mode has seen significantly wide adoption in terms of how it looks across interfaces. Most mainstream apps today offer a dark mode interface, which also syncs with device colour themes to adopt automatically. Phones and desktop platforms both come with the dark theme today, making it a ubiquitous one — just not the messiah for your phone battery that you may have imagined it to be.

Realme Book visits 3C ahead of India launch
Realme is gearing up for the launch of its first laptop. Ahead of the rumoured August launch, the Realme Book is listed on 3C certification. The listing confirms that the device will come with 65W fast charging support, which is on par with most laptops in the mid-range price segment.
As per the leaked details, the laptop’s base model is expected to launch in India under Rs 40,000. Some of the key specifications and the design of the upcoming Realme Book had also surfaced on the web earlier this month. The leak suggested that the upcoming Realme laptop will have an aluminium body and super-thin bezels. Tipster OnLeaks leaked the device’s design renders and key specs.
Realme’s laptop will sport a 14-inch LED display, which is expected to have a Full HD resolution. It will come in multiple configurations with Intel Core i3 and i5 11th generation processors. The laptop is said to run Windows 10 out of the box. It is likely that the company will offer support for Windows 11 in the coming weeks. It will also come with Microsoft Office pre-installed. Xiaomi is expected to host a new event in China in August 2021. The company could unveil new hardware products alongside MIU 13. One of the rumoured hardware products expected to launch in August is the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4. Initially, rumours suggested that the Mix 4 will launch as a new foldable smartphone from Xiaomi. However, recent developments suggest that the phone will instead focus on the under-display camera technology to offer an immersive viewing experience. As we gather more details, Xiaomi’s Mix 4 has visited the TENAA website. The listing on TENAA confirms some key performance unit details of the device. Let’s take a look at the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 specs, RAM and storage options leaked via TENAA.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 TENAA listing
Xiaomi is expected to launch the Mi Mix 4 later this year. Ahead of the official launch, the device’s RAM, storage options have leaked online. The key details of the Xiaomi phone were leaked via TENAA. It confirms that the Mix 4 will launch in 8GB and 12GB RAM options. Both variants will come with 256GB of internal storage.
As expected, the device will also come with 5G network and dual-SIM support. It will run on Android, which is likely to have a customised layer of MIUI on top.
The USP of the Mix 4 is going to be its under-display front camera. Xiaomi is said to be working on overcoming the challenges that the under-display camera tech brings with it. The company does not want to compromise on the overall display quality while introducing futuristic tech. It is rumoured to sport a 2K+ screen resolution, Xiaomi will apparently use a custom display panel with a resolution higher than the standard full HD.
A report previously stated that Mix 4 will maintain the true full-screen experience that was the central pitch of the Mix series from the start, and feature equal-sized bezels on all sides that will be super thin, for a premium viewing experience.
Other details include a Snapdragon 888 inside, a 4,500 mAh battery and 120W fast charging. There is no official word on the Mi Mix 4 launch date at the moment. We will share more details as and when the information is out.
