Samsung Could be Working on a Tablet With a Foldable Display

Samsung is gearing up to unveil new foldable smartphones on August 11. The South Korean tech giant will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold3 and the Z Flip3 at the Galaxy Unpacked event. The company has launched quite a few devices with a foldable display. It looks like the company is taking it a step further and working on a tablet with a flexible display. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted two patents to Samsung for mobile devices with a large flexible display.

The USPTO has granted Samsung two patents for a mobile device with a flexible display. The images attached also reveal the patented design. Spitted by GizChina, one of the two patents has the name “Tablet Computer.” The patent description states that the tablet with a screen folds into the body. The centre of the edges has connectors, including a USB Type-C port.

The second document, titled “Foldable mobile phone with transitional graphical user interface”, suggests that it will have a Galaxy Fold-like design. However, the device in the patented image has a notch on the top-right corner of the flexible display. This notch houses the front camera and other sensors. There is also a smaller outer display, above which is another front camera. On the back of the device is a vertically aligned triple-camera setup.

We do not have any details about the specifications of the two devices. The company had announced that it will launch more foldable devices in the coming years. Some of these foldable phones will be priced affordably to make them more mainstream.

Meanwhile, Samsung will launch two new premium foldable phones. One of the two devices launching on August 11 is the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which is rumoured to cost around $2,000. The other foldable phone from Samsung is the Z Flip 3, which will be priced around the $1,000 mark.
