Samsung Galaxy A23 in for review

The Samsung Galaxy A23 arrived at HQ and is now in the review queue. It comes in a simple box with a 15W charger, USB cable, and a SIM tool. Our particular unit is the Black one but you can have the phone in White, Blue or Peach as well. The Galaxy A22 had an AMOLED display, albeit of 720p resolution, and at 6.4 inches and with reasonable bezels it made up for a compact phone. The Galaxy A23 has a larger 6.6-inch 1080p LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate, but in turn is a bigger handset. Samsung Galaxy A23 The display isn't bad, but it's not all that great either. It isn't as...

Google Pixel Watch's battery size leaks

The Pixel Watch leaks campaign is now in full force ahead of its probable announcement at Google I/O next month. We've already seen a prototype "accidentally" "forgotten" in a restaurant, in a box but with no charger. This very conveniently managed to show the world the upcoming hardware without also portraying any part of its software. Then the watch got certified by the Bluetooth SIG in three versions, and today a new rumor drip-feeds us the next bit of info: the battery capacity. It's going to be 300 mAh. Is that large? Is that small? Let's put it into context. The Pixel Watch...

DxOMark: OnePlus 10 Pro's cameras score poorly, places behind the Mi 10 Pro

DxOMark published its review of the OnePlus 10 Pro's camera and it appears to be in line with most of the reviews out there. The conclusion is that the handset has some considerable issues that keep it from matching its rivala. As a result, the handset takes 27th place in DxOMark's global ranking, right behind the likes of Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, Mi 11 Pro, vivo X60 Pro+ and Apple iPhone 12 Pro. All are more than year-old flagships. The most notable cons DxOMark pointed out are color artifacts with a pink-ish cast, especially in low-light conditions, ghosting and fusion artifacts. Apple had a record quarter from January to March

Apple has just reported its quarterly results for its fiscal second quarter, which ended on March 26 and is thus confusingly the first quarter of the year (fiscal years are funny like that sometimes). Anyway, it's good news for the Cupertino company, as it's posted record revenue for a March quarter. Apple's revenue was $97.3 billion in that quarter, up 9% year-on-year (aka compared to the 2021 March quarter). This resulted in quarterly earnings per diluted share of $1.52, which you should care about only if you own Apple shares. Also for shareholders, it's important to note that Apple's...

With the Iqoo Z6 Pro falling between these two devices, it would be interesting to see which emerges as the champion?

The Iqoo Z6 Pro seems to be giving stiff competition to the Realme 9 SE and Samsung Galaxy M52 5G. The Realme 9 SE, priced lower than the others, comes with a lot of compromises while the Samsung Galaxy M52 also lacks some features. The Iqoo Z6 Pro has faster charging, a high refresh rate AMOLED display, up to 12GB RAM option, etc which makes it a better pick. That said, the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G is still a decent pick at this time as well.

OnePlus Nord2 finally gets first Android 12 Open Beta build

Following an earlier release of an Open Beta build of Android 12 for the original Nord, today OnePlus has finally managed to get round to issuing a similar release for the much newer Nord2, which launched last July running Android 11 and is still stuck on that version of the OS even today. That's a big shame, but OnePlus is seemingly working on rectifying it. One small step at a time. The first such step is today's release of OxygenOS 12 Open Beta 1 for the Nord2. As usual with such builds, don't go down this path if you're not comfortable with bugs and random issues showing up. The Open...

We have compared all the three devices – Moto G52, Redmi Note 11, and Realme 9i in order to make sure that you pick the best phone under Rs 15,000 in India. Let’s start with the comparison.

Moto G52 vs Redmi Note 11 vs Realme 9i: Price in India

The Moto G52 has a reflective gradient finish on the back with light colours at the centre. The triple cameras alongside an LED flash have been placed in a spherical shaped module. On the front, it has a thin display around the sides and a punch hole on the front. The handset comes with an IP52 certification making it splash-resistant, a feature missing in this range. Overall, the design of the Moto G52 gives users a premium in-hand feel. It comes in two colours – Black and White.

The Redmi Note 11 comes with an EVOL design language which makes it look premium. It houses a quad-camera setup at the rear along with a punch-hole design at the front. The phone has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor at the right, while the IR blaster sits at the top. It is available in three colour options, including Starburst White, Space Black, and Horizon Blue.

The Realme 9i comes with a stripe-like texture at the rear panel that gives it a premium look. The rear panel also houses a camera module at the top-left corner. The front panel of the device comes with a punch-hole cutout for selfies. The Realme 9i is available in Prism Black and Prism Blue colour options.

Moto G52 vs Redmi Note 11 vs Realme 9i: Display

Moto G52 vs Redmi Note 11 vs Realme 9i: Performance

All three devices are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor. The graphic duties are handled by an Adreno 610 GPU. All three of them are backed by up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. But the Realme 9i comes with 5GB virtual RAM expansion technology which gives it a lead over the other two. The Moto G52 also offers virtual RAM support of 1.5GB.

The Redmi Note 11 runs on MIUI 13, which is based on Android 11. While the other two, Moto G52 and Realme 9i run on Android 12 based MyUX and Realme UI 3.0 respectively.

Moto G52 vs Redmi Note 11 vs Realme 9i: Cameras

Coming to cameras, the Moto G52 houses a triple rear camera setup. The 50MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture is placed alongside an 8MP ultrawide lens with f/2.4 aperture and a 2MP macro sensor with f/2.4 aperture. For selfies and video calls, it comes with a 16MP camera on the front.

Moto G52 vs Redmi Note 11 vs Realme 9i: Battery

All three devices pack a 5,000mAh battery unit with 33W charging support. The charger is provided inside the box.

Moto G52 vs Redmi Note 11 vs Realme 9i: Verdict

Motorola has put up a tough competition against its competitors with the Moto G52 this time. It gives a tough fight to the Redmi Note 11 and Realme 9i. The IP52 rating, Stock Android, 90Hz POLED display, and slim design gives it a major lead over the other two devices. So, you won’t regret it if you pick the Moto G52 which is priced under Rs 15,000 in India. That said, the Realme 9i and Redmi Note 11 are pretty decent choices. But the lack of an ultrawide lens and an AMOLED display in the Realme 9i makes Redmi Note 11 look better.

Which one is your pick? Let us know in the comments section.

Naturally, the Korean tech giant wants in on the M2 chip production as well. The so-called Samsung Electro-Mechanics arm is pretty close to striking a deal with Apple to produce the same FC-BGA...

iPhones With USB-C Port: Apple Faces More Pressure by EU to Ditch Lightning Port

Apple seems to have done a good job in making people move from Lighting Port to USB-C ports in iPads and Mac devices over the years. However, when it comes to their key product, iPhones, the story is still the same as it was years ago. The latest iPhone 13 models still have a Lightning Port at the bottom for charging purposes. Keeping a Lightning port has indirectly forced customers to carry a different cable for wired charging on iPhones and a separate USB-C port for iPads and MacBooks. Now, it looks like the story might not stay the same. The European Commission, months after having a tussle with Apple, is now one step closer to making the iPhone-maker switch to USB-C port for iPhones (and other iDevices).

Also read: Apple iPhone 14 Pro OLED Displays Will Come Exclusively From Samsung, Others May Get Multiple Suppliers

EU Commission’s Pressure and the Reason for It

This week, the members of the European Parliament voted for legislation that puts more pressure on Apple to use the USB-C port on all iPhones, iPads, and AirPods in Europe. However, this legislation is not specific to Apple. It includes all the consumer electronics manufacturers who sell phones, tablets, laptops, cameras, consoles and more in Europe. Since many manufacturers have naturally adopted USB-C ports around the world, Apple seems to be hell-bent on using the Lightning Port in iPhones – which is one of the most sold smartphones in the world. However, there are exceptions too. It’s for those devices which are slim or compact enough to not include a USB-C port.

Why is the EU pressurising this legislation that makes USB-C mandatory for all manufacturers in Europe? Why has this battle been going on since the past several years? That’s because the authority argues that a ‘common port’ for all the devices will drastically reduce electronic waste and at the same time will address product sustainability. Majorly, it will also be making charging or transferring data via wires more convenient. If this happens, users would need just one adapter and a USB-C cable to charge their headphones, smartphones, consoles, laptops, tablets and more.

Also read: Apple iPhone With All-Screen Display May Launch by 2024, Says Analyst

Back in 2018, the EU was fairly close to making this a law but was not able to do so. At that time, Apple warned that forcing everyone to use a single USB-C cable will curb innovation to a great extent and will add to the electronic waste since millions will be forced to buy new USB-C cables.

What Comes First? USB-C or a Portless iPhone

The EU Commission’s pressure raises a new question for Apple. Whether to keep battling for its Lightning Cable for iPhones (and for how long?) or to make the entire device portless instead. If Apple plans to not agree with the EU Commission, all this will definitely lead it to push for a portless iPhone more than ever. Interestingly, a recent news report stated that iPhones may go portless in 2024. Apple is already moving towards a portless iPhone at a steady pace. The company has been aggressively pushing AirPods and wireless headphones along with MagSafe wireless charging tech – indirectly pushing more users to go wireless.
