Xiaomi could soon launch a Ceramic Jade Green Art Edition of the popular bezel-less large screen smartphone Mi Mix 2S. Only a very high-end variant of the premium smartphone is expected to get the customization.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2’s successor, the Mi Mix 2S, launched earlier this year. Apart from getting a hardware refresh to match with the current generation of smartphones, Xiaomi has regularly customized the device with aesthetically pleasing art treatments. Quite recently, Xiaomi introduced a very special edition of the Mi Mix 2S in collaboration with the British Museum.
After getting a great response to the Art Special Edition, Xiaomi has apparently designed another special edition of the smartphone. The company may call this variant the Mi Mix 2S Ceramic Jade Green Art Edition. Very little is known about the special edition, except for the rumor that it will follow the previous iteration, and launch in China. Additionally, Xiaomi is expected to apply the customization only to the top-end variant of the smartphone. In other words, only the variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage will get the treatment.
Mi Mix 2S Ceramic Jade Green Art Edition: Special Features
In the previous special edition, Xiaomi had packed refreshed hardware similar to the standard Mi Mix 2S. However, the Mi Mix 2S Art Special Edition sported a laser engraved rear and a customized back cover. The back panel of Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is made of Ceramic. It is an incredibly hard and glossy material. This opens up several options for beautiful customizations that are either are baked in or laser engraved during the manufacturing process itself.
The previous special edition had laser engraved artwork. It was a beautiful tribute to art and science. Needless to add, the textured finish of the design further enhanced the outlook of the phone. The soon-to-be-expected Mi Mix 2S Ceramic Jade Green Art Edition could get a very similar treatment. Moreover, as the name implies, this version will most likely have the ceramic back in jade green color. Xiaomi had encased the Mi Mix 2S Art Special Edition in a black case that included a Deruta plate, and a card that offered free entry to the actual museum in Britain. China’s culture and heritage have deep linkages with the jade color. Hence, Xiaomi could include certain privileges within the latest customized version of the smartphone that links with China’s artistic past.
Mi Mix 2S Ceramic Jade Green Art Edition: Specifications
Xiaomi hasn’t yet officially confirmed the Mi Mix 2S Ceramic Jade Green Art Edition, but if or when launched, it will have the same hardware as the original Mi Mix 2S model that debuted in March 2018. The only difference could be the RAM and internal storage.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S packs a 5.99-inch full-HD+ display bearing 1080×2160 pixels resolution, an 18:9 aspect ratio, and 403 PPI pixel density. An octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset clubbed with Adreno 630 GPU powers the device. The top-end variant includes 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, which is non-expandable.
The smartphone packs a dual rear camera setup with a combination of 12MP+12MP sensors, wherein the primary sensor sports a f/1.8 aperture, wide-angle lens, and four-axis Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The secondary sensor packs a f/2.4 aperture and a telephoto lens. Together, the dual camera setup also offers optical zoom along with AI-based scene recognition functionality. The front camera features a 5MP lens with HDR, Face Unlock, and AI-based beautification. The camera has already scored 101 points on DxO Mark.
The Mi Mix 2S runs on Android Oreo-based MIUI 9.5, but the Mi Mix 2S Ceramic Jade Green Art Edition may have MIUI 10. The phone supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, USB Type-C, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, and GPS/ A-GPS. A relatively large 3400mAh battery powers the device. The battery supports Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology and wireless charging. In other words, Xiaomi has made a good use of the ceramic back. The Mi Mix 2S measures 150.86×74.9×8.1mm and weighs 189 grams.
Mi Mix 2S Ceramic Jade Green Art Edition: Price in India, Availability
As mentioned earlier, the Mi Mix 2S Ceramic Jade Green Art Edition is currently limited to China. The previous iteration of the special edition launched at CNY 4,299 (approximately Rs. 45,300). As is the norm with Xiaomi, the company could stick to the flash sales model in China. Concerning its availability in India, we doubt whether Xiaomi will bring it to the Indian shores as the company did not even launch the standard edition of the smartphone here. Fortunately, the 4th Xiaomi flagship might arrive in India soon.
