Reliance Jio recently launched the next generation of its feature phones lineup, the Jio Phone 2. Unlike its bar-designed predecessor, the Jio Phone 2 comes with a QWERTY keypad. Jio Phone 2 is yet another affordable 4G offering from Reliance Jio. One such affordable 4G phone is Nokia 1 which happens to be Nokia’s first phone based on Google’s new Android Oreo (Go Edition) platform. In this segment, we will compare these handsets based on various aspects to know which one of these is a better bet.
Jio Phone 2 Vs. Nokia 1: Price in India
The smartphone is priced at Rs. 2,999 and will be up for sale starting August 15, 2018. It will be available in Black colour option only. The Nokia 1 price starts at Rs. 4,350. The smartphone was released back in March with a price ticket of Rs. 5499 and interestingly, Reliance Jio rolled out a cashback offer on the purchase of the device along with 60GB data.
Jio Phone 2 Vs. Nokia 1: Design, Display
Design-wise, the Jio Phone 2 and the Nokia 1 are very different. While the Jio Phone 2 sports a QWERTY BlackBerry-like design while the Nokia 1 comes with a full touchscreen display design. The Jio Phone 2 displays a 2.40-inch screen with 240×320 pixels resolution whereas the Nokia 1 boasts a larger 4.50-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 pixels by 854 pixels.
Jio Phone 2 Vs. Nokia 1: Hardware, Software
The Nokia 1 is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The phone also packs 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. However, the processor powering the Jio Phone 2 is unknown for now. As for storage, the Jio Phone 2 packs 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, which is expandable to 128GB via microSD card.
On the software front, the Jio Phone 2 runs KaiOS out-of-the-box while the Nokia 1 runs Android 8.1.
Jio Phone 2 Vs. Nokia 1: Camera, Battery, Other Specifications
In the camera department, the Jio Phone 2 packs a 2MP image snapper at the back. On the front, the device houses a VGA front camera. For optics, the Nokia 1 brings better specs on the table with a 5-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 2-megapixel front shooter for selfies.
To keep the lights on, the Jio Phone 2 sips power from a 2000mAh battery while the Nokia 1 is fuelled by a slightly bigger 2150mAh removable battery. The connectivity options on the Nokia 1 include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, FM, 3G, and 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India). While the Jio Phone 2 tags along similar options including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 4G with VoLTE support, Bluetooth with an added NFC option. Both the handsets come with a dual SIM support.
Jio Phone 2 Vs. Nokia 1: Verdict
If we look at the specifications, Nokia 1 brings better choices than Jio Phone 2. However, both the devices justify their price tag. Nokia 1 has a better camera set up, better software specifications, a slightly bigger battery. As for the hardware, the processor powering the Jio Phone is unknown. There are chances that Jio Phone could have a smoother handset experience than that of Nokia 1.
When it comes to affordability with good-to-go specifications, Jio Phone 2 is a better choice. If you are actually looking for a budget smartphone under similar price segment with fairly competent specifications, you can add in some more money and buy a budget Xiaomi phone.
The Nokia 1 is already available in the market and the Jio Phone 2 goes on sale on August 15. Reliance Jio is also bringing Jio GigaFiber next month. The existing broadband players are making their data game strong with new plans and upgrading the existing ones before it arrives next month.
