WhatsApp Rolling Out Mark as Read Shortcut in Notification Centre in Beta Version of Android

WhatsApp has now added a new feature to its latest Beta build on Android. The all-new features allow users to mark a message as read directly through the notification center. The latest build of WhatsApp now shows two options, Reply and Mark as Read when you pull down a message showing up on your notification center.

WhatsApp Mark as Read Feature Now Available in Beta

The new feature comes soon after WhatsApp updated it app with a group calling facility earlier this week. The Mark as Read feature was first reported by WABetaInfo a few weeks back. The feature was, however, not available for the public then, but now beta testers of WhatsApp can make of it by updating their app to the latest build. This Mark as Read feature in the notifications shade despite being a minor is a pretty useful feature. It will help saving time and get over the habit of WhatsApp frequently just to read messages. Even the Reply feature from the notifications shade came in handy when it was first introduced months back.

How to Mark a Message as Read Using the New Feature?

The Mark as Read button on the notifications panels appears just beside the Reply option. Therefore, just in case you wouldn’t like to a message at all or don’t want to send a reply at the very moment, you can select the Mark as Read button. This would not just prevent you from opening the app to mark the message with a blue tick, but also allow you to stop seeing the notification regarding the same message throughout the day.

How to Get WhatsApp’s Mark as Read Feature?

To try out the new WhatsApp feature you first need to opt-in for the beta testing program. You can do so by going to the Google Play store from your Android smartphone, and thereafter searching for WhatsApp beta. Now, scroll down the bottom of the page and search for the options that say Join as a Beta Tester for the app. Once you are able to find the option just click on Join. Sometimes, a message would pop up saying its longer accepting Beta testers for the app. Then, you would need to directly download the exact beta version of the WhatsApp app from the mirror link here. Do note that the version number of the WhatsApp beta app is 2.18.232.

Those who aren’t really keen on becoming a beta tester for the app, or download a beta version of the same from the mirror link, need to wait at least for a few days. Considering WhatsApp’s track record of pushing updates, we can expect the Mark as Read feature to hit the stable version within a week time. Besides, WhatsApp is also expected to roll out the new feature for its iOS users too.

Facebook-owned popular messaging service WhatsApp has been on an update spree of late. Just a few hours back, WhatsApp introduced a new group voice and video calling feature. This feature is now available for both its Android and iOS users. Previously they had also added a few other noteworthy features one of which included an administrative feature for improving the group chatting experience.  Besides these WhatsApp recently started to restrict the number of times a message can be forwarded. The move was taken amidst fake news controversy encircling around various Facebook-owned products.
