Motorola Moto Z4 vs OnePlus 7 vs Redmi K20 Pro: Price, Specifications, Features Comparison

Motorola launched its first 2019 Z series smartphone earlier this week, dubbed Moto Z4. The new Moto Z4 is a mid-range smartphone but in terms of pricing, it happens to be dangerously close to “affordable flagship” smartphones such as the OnePlus 7. Is the new Motorola Moto Z4 good enough to be considered over smartphones such as the OnePlus 7 and Redmi’s new K20 Pro? Let us find out.

Motorola Moto Z4 vs OnePlus 7 vs Redmi K20 Pro: Price

The Motorola Moto Z4 has been priced at $499 (INR 34,700 approx.) in the US, where it is slated to go on sale starting June 6th via retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon. Verizon Wireless will begin selling the smartphone June 13 onwards. OnePlus 7 is set to go on sale in India starting June 4 for a starting price of INR 32,999 for the 6GB + 128GB storage variant. The 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant of the smartphone is priced at INR 37,999. Redmi’s flagship K20 Pro has only been launched in China so far, where its base variant with 6GB RAM + 64GB storage costs CNY 2,499 (INR 25,200 approx.). Even the most expensive variant with 8GB RAM + 256GB storage only costs CNY 2,999 (INR 30,200 approx.). When it comes to value, there is no doubt that the Redmi K20 Pro easily beats both the OnePlus 7 and the Moto Z4.

Motorola Moto Z4 vs OnePlus 7 vs Redmi K20 Pro: Display, Performance

Motorola’s first 2019 Moto Z-series smartphone, the Moto Z4 comes with a 6.4-inch OLED display panel with 1080 x 2340 pixels Full HD+ resolution and an In-display fingerprint scanner. It has a waterdrop notch at the top and a screen-to-body ratio of 85%. It runs on Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 675 octa-core processor with an Adreno 612 GPU. The 11nm processor has been clubbed with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, which is further expandable up to 2TB with a microSD card. The phone runs a near stock version of Android 9.0 Pie.

OnePlus 7 has a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display panel featuring the same Full HD+ resolution and an In-display fingerprint scanner as the Moto Z4. Unlike the OnePlus 7 Pro, which has a notch-less display, the OnePlus 7 comes with a waterdrop notch. Under the hood, OnePlus 7 runs on Qualcomm’s flagship 7nm Snapdragon 855 octa-core processor with an Adreno 640 GPU. It is available in two memory configurations: 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB. Memory expansion, like previous OnePlus phones, isn’t supported. The OnePlus 7 currently runs on Android 9.0 Pie-based OxygenOS 9.

Redmi K20 Pro has a 6.39-inch AMOLED display featuring identical Full HD+ resolution as the other two phones. However, unlike the Moto Z4 and OnePlus 7, the Redmi K20 Pro display does not come with a notch. The Redmi smartphone also uses a seventh-generation optical In-display fingerprint scanner. It runs on a Snapdragon 855 chipset with eight-layer liquid cooling to deliver best-in-class performance. The phone is offered in four configurations: 6GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB, 8GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 256GB. There is no microSD card slot on offer, making further expansion impossible. The Redmi flagship runs on Xiaomi’s MIUI 10 based on Android Pie OS.

When it comes to the display and performance departments, it is quite clear that the Moto Z4 isn’t very competitive against the Redmi K20 Pro and OnePlus 7. Both the Redmi K20 Pro and OnePlus 7 run on Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor, which is significantly more powerful than the mid-range Snapdragon 675.

Motorola Moto Z4 vs OnePlus 7 vs Redmi K20 Pro: Camera, Battery, Connectivity

The Motorola Moto Z4 is equipped with a single 48MP camera at the rear with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a Quad Bayer color filter, clubbed with an f/1.7 aperture. For impressive low-light performance, the phone has the Night Mode feature that the company offers on the One Vision as well. For selfies, the Moto Z4 features a 25-megapixel snapper with an f/2.0 aperture and several AI enhancements. Fueling the internals of the Moto Z4 is a 3600mAh capacity battery with 15W TurboPower fast charging support. On the connectivity front, it supports dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS with A-GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, 4G VoLTE, and a USB 3.1 Type-C port.

OnePlus 7 has a dual-camera setup at the rear with a 48-megapixel primary sensor clubbed with an f/1.7 aperture lens as well as a 5MP resolution depth sensor. Housed within the waterdrop notch at the top of the smartphone’s display is a 16MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture lens. The OnePlus 7 packs a 3700mAh capacity battery with 20W fast charging support. Connectivity standards that the OnePlus flagship supports include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, NFC, USB 3.1 Type-C port, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, and 4G VoLTE.

Redmi K20 Pro is the only one among the three smartphones to have a triple-camera setup on the back. It sports a 48MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and a 13MP ultra-wide snapper with an f/2.4 aperture. The affordable flagship has a motorized pop-up 20MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture. It has a large 4000mAh battery inside, supporting 27W fast charging. Connectivity-wise, the K20 Pro supports all the modern standards such as dual-band Wi-Fi 802.1ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, and 4G VoLTE.

While all the three smartphones have a 48MP primary sensor, it is the Redmi K20 Pro that impresses the most thanks to its two additional sensors. It also packs a larger battery than the other two phones.

Motorola Moto Z4 vs OnePlus 7 vs Redmi K20 Pro: Verdict

When pitted against the OnePlus 7 and the Redmi K20 Pro, it is very clear that the Motorola Moto Z4 is simply not as impressive in most areas. The OnePlus 7 Pro is undoubtedly more impressive than the Motorola smartphone but it loses out to the Redmi K20 Pro when it comes to value. Redmi’s first flagship is slightly more impressive than the other two phones in many areas but is still the most affordable, making it the winner.
