WhatsApp is finally adding the much-awaited multi-device support for the app. Some lucky beta testers have got access to the new companion mode on Android, which allows users to link a new device with the same account as on the existing phone. This essentially means that as a user, you can use the same WhatsApp account with the same phone number on two different devices at the same time.
This feature is one of the most requested and also the much-anticipated feature on the platform. Competition such as Telegram is already offering this and Meta-owned WhatsApp is now catching up. Let’s take a look at the new feature in detail.
WhatsApp Phone Companion Mode Now Rolling Out for Beta Users
With the latest v2.22.24.18 for WhatsApp (beta) version, some lucky users have received a new feature called Companion mode that allows them to add a new phone as a secondary device. The feature was spotted by WABetainfo and is now available for only a specific set of beta users.
A recent beta update added Link to Tablet support and now this latest version adds phone support for the same. As you can see from the screenshot above, to check if you have got the new feature, you can just tap on the menu icon and select “Linked devices”, here if the feature is enabled, you will see “Link with your phone” and the app will ask you to scan the QR code, just like WhatsApp Web or Desktop app.
Once you link the phone with the WhatsApp account, the chats will be synced across both devices. However, some features like live location, stickers and broadcasts may not sync. You can link up to four devices at once and more than two smartphones to the same WhatsApp account.
As said earlier, the feature is now rolling out to some beta testers only and a wider rollout of the same is expected to happen in the coming days.
