Spotify users in India are up for some disappointment. The audio streaming platform has removed several Bollywood songs from its platform in India. The songs that are missing from Spotify are mostly from the Indian music label company Zee Music. Hundreds of Bollywood songs, including chartbusters and hits from the past, have vanished from the platform. The company decided to delist the songs released by Zee Music as the licensing agreement between the two companies expired.

“Apna Banaa Le”, the song from the Bollywood movie Bhediya, which was also the number 1 track on Spotify India, is also no longer available on the platform. If you are a Spotify user in India who listens to Bollywood songs, here’s everything you need to know about the situation.

Spotify Delists Several Bollywood Songs in India

Spotify has confirmed that it has removed several Bollywood songs from its platform after it failed to reach a licensing agreement with Zee Music. “Spotify and Zee Music have been unable to reach a licensing agreement. Throughout these negotiations, Spotify has tried to find creative ways to strike a deal with Zee Music and will continue our good faith negotiations in hopes of finding a mutually agreeable solution soon,” the company said in its statement to Billboard.

The end result is that Bollywood music fans will not be able to listen to songs released by Zee Music on the audio-streaming platform. This includes the number 1 song on Spotify, Apna Banaa Le along with other chartbusters, such as Malhaari from Bajirao Mastani, Kaala Chashma from Baar Baar Dekho, Kalank, Maiyya Mainu from Jersey, Makhna from Drive, Namo Namo from Kedarnath to name a few.

Other hits from movies like Gully Boy, Veere Di Wedding and Raees are also missing from the platform.

Zee Music is one of the largest music label companies in India. The company, which is a part of Zee Entertainment Enterprises, has a YouTube subscriber base of over 93.6 million. It is the second-most subscribed Indian music channel on YouTube after T-series, which is far ahead at 239 million subscribers.

The failure in licensing agreement has led to many fans being disappointed.
