Coolpad Cool Play 7C With 5.5-inch LCD Display, Dual Rear Camera Launched in China: Price, Features

At the end of last month, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Coolpad, launched a new budget smartphone called the Cool Play 7. It had a notch up front, and some decent specifications. And now, the company has released a cheaper variant, called the Coolpad Cool Play 7C.

This variant does not come with a notch, has a lower capacity battery, lower resolution cameras, and the design is different as well. Coolpad is currently selling the new Cool Play 7C only in China, but it is possible that it could make it to international markets later on.

If you are a notch hater, and did not like the design of the Cool Play 7, then you can go for the new 7C. It’s got the same processor, RAM and storage options, but looks better.

Coolpad Cool Play 7C: Pricing and Availability

The Coolpad Cool Play 7C is currently available for pre-order from JD.com in China. The pricing starts at CNY 699 (Rs. 7299) for the variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. If you want 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, then it will cost you CNY 799 (Rs.8299). Pretty cheap, aren’t they?

Official sales of the device will start on September 4th at 10AM. Again, we are not sure if the phone will be sold outside of China. It is available in three color options; Diamond Black, Aurora Blue, and Ruby Red.

Coolpad Cool Play 7C: Specifications

Coming to the specifications of the Cool Play 7C, you can’t really expect much from a phone costing so less. It is a budget smartphone, but for the price, you get a lot, including a glass body. The phone has a 5.5-inch 720p LCD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the MediaTek MT6750 processor, the same as the one found in the Cool Play 7. This is an octa-core chipset, but don’t expect awesome performance from it.

There are two variants of the phone available, one with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and another with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It does come with a microSD card slot, in case you want to add more space. Now, when it comes to the camera, there are some disparities between the JD.com listing and the images of the phone.

If you look at the phone, you can see a vertical dual-rear camera setup. However, the listing on JD.com states that the phone only has a single 8MP rear camera. Perhaps the second camera is a dummy then? We are not really sure. For the price, you cannot really complain. On the front, you get a 5MP camera for all your selfie needs.

The phone comes with a 2500mAh battery, a microUSB port, and also a 3.5mm headphone jack. You get a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and support for Face unlock as well. For software, the phone has Android 8.1 Oreo pre-installed, with a custom UI on top. Coolpad also has its own AI assistant integrated into the OS, but we aren’t sure how good that is.

That’s about all you get for the amount of money you are paying. But, it’s not bad, as the phone comes with all the basic features required for telephony, browsing the web, chatting, video calling, light gaming, and decent photography. The AI assistant can apparently perform basic tasks such as, search and open apps, search for queries, and even make calls/send text messages.
