Tech giants are often competition to show what they can do best against that of their competition, and LG surprised a few with their latest launch at IFA Berlin. TechRadar reported as the electronics giants showcased their newest addition at the biggest stage in Europe, the IFA Berlin 2018, as LG launched their OLED TV with an incredible 8K resolution. The moment was more like a De-Ja-Vu when the first 4K TV was launched, and we are not surprised that this kind of television is one for the future.
One thing is for sure that LG is merely trying to show their TV-making prowess to other competitors and the world, but that doesn’t take anything away from the fact that their new 8K OLED TV is just stunning and out of the world (for now). However, without wasting much time on other stuff, let’s take on some details about this incredible 8K resolution TV.
What do we know about the LG 8K OLED TV?
Despite LG launching the 8K OLED TV, the brand did not divulge much information on many details related to its specifications. All we know so far is that the TV is a massive 88-inches big with 7680×4320 resolution, all of which feels surreal when looked at. It can create the same impression that a 4K TV or even a Full HD TV created when it first came onto the market.
The reason given by LG behind this TV was that they consider 8K to be the next big thing, and sure enough, it could be. However, the general prediction is that 8K TV could become a regular occurrence by 2022, but for now, it would be a significant investment considering what it could sell for.
However, what LG has done is show off their technological innovation behind making this television and got in on the act first to showcase this massive 8K OLED TV to the world.

However, considering the 8K OLED TV for its tech, it does not need a backlight as its self-emissive. That said, a vast 8K TV, as expected is not thinner by any means, and is set to consume more power as well as bandwidth to show the best possible picture in your living room. Although, after 4K sets bordering around the overkill for bandwidth consumption, 8K TV’s should ideally learn from those mistakes and make the sets much thinner and help consume less power. That said, there’s still much time before 8K TVs become the norm, so for now, we can stick with 4K sets, which again are still novelties.
What do we don’t know about the LG 8K OLED TV?
At the IFA Berlin launch, LG only so revealed details on the size of the TV and its resolution. While the set was up on display, there still wasn’t much information available on either what it’s panel could look like or other minute tech specifications. The big questions are about viewing content which is not based on the 8k resolution, but probably a 4k or HD stuff. So with the upscaling in the technology in the 8k OLED TV, will the set allow 4K or HD stuff to be viewed at a sharper resolution?
We believe all those answers should come in due time, as LG will at a later date release all necessary details regarding this gigantic innovation. That said, the next thing on the agenda would be the price, and as much as the TV has stunning looks, most of us would not be able to afford this 8k OLED TV, at least for now. In India, the reported price tag the LG 8K OLED TV carries is a massive Rs. 1.65 Lakhs, something we possibly might be able to afford in the coming years, or probably never.

LG’s move to unveil their massive 8K OLED TV is just a significant step towards the future. We do not expect televisions of 8K resolution to become a regular thing till 2022. On the other hand, there are not enough content providers with the bandwidth to serve an 8K television just yet. For the time being, only Japan’s NHK has rolled out the world’s first 8K TV broadcasts, but that too is highly limited, as they too estimate it to be adopted widely by around the 2020 mark.
