Google Pixel 4a specifications

Google Pixel 4a to launch in India on October 17

Google Pixel 4a has a new design with a soft-to-touch plastic back but without the dual-tone style as on the Pixel 3a. It measures 8.2 millimetres in thickness and is fairly lightweight, weighing 143 grams, due to the polycarbonate built. There is a square camera module on the back with the fingerprint reader placed in the middle for faster unlock speeds. The phone doesn’t go for an in-display sensor as is the trend these days likely to keep the price down.

The 4a features a 5.8-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution display that uses an OLED panel. The screen has a punch-hole cutout in the top-left corner for housing the selfie camera and has minimal bezels on the sides. This gives it a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Additionally, the display is HDR+ certified which should enhance the video-viewing experience on the phone while the audio is expected to be decent with stereo speakers.

The Pixel 4a is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G with an octa-core CPU clocked at upto 2.2GHz and Adreno 618 GPU. This is paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Being a Pixel phone, Google offers unlimited photo and video storage in Google Photos in high quality for free. The Pixel 4a is a slightly toned-down version of the Pixel 4 that debuted late last year. It doesn’t come with the Soli radar chip or Pixel Neural Core but does come with the Titan M security chip which helps in keeping your data safe along with assured updates for three years.

Google Pixel 4a comes with a single 12MP camera which uses the same Sony IMX363 sensor as the Pixel 4 with support for OIS and EIS. Google claims that the camera of the Pixel 4a is capable of producing Pixel 4-like images from its camera with features like Live HDR+, Night Sight, Astrophotography, Super Res Zoom and more. The phone’s rear camera is capable of recording in 4K at 30fps, 1080p at 30/60/120fps and 720p at up to 240fps while the selfie camera can shoot Full HD videos at 30fps. The front camera on the phone is the same as the Pixel 3a with an 8MP camera with an 84-degree field-of-view.

The 4a does not lose out on the 3.5mm headphone jack and comes pre-loaded with Google Assistant along with a slew of new features like the new Recorder app which transcribes speech to text using AI and machine learning algorithms. In addition, the phone has accessibility features like live Transcribe and Live Caption as well.

The Pixel 4a is equipped with a 3,140mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. Google claims that the 4a can provide a 24-hour battery backup and comes with Adaptive Battery feature that manages the battery life based on how you use your phone.

Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G with Snapdragon 765G SoC Launched: Price, Full Specifications

Google, on Wednesday, announced the launch of its next-generation Pixel smartphones at an online-only ‘Made by Google’ event. As rumored in the past, the new Pixel smartphones feature 5G support and come with new feature additions. The two new devices announced include the Google Pixel 5 and the Google Pixel 4a 5G. The latter, as you might have guessed by now, is an upgraded, 5G variant of the existing Google Pixel 4a. Also notable is the fact that both these handsets – at least as of now – will not be released in India. Also, there is no XL edition of the phone this time around. The Pixel 5XL, therefore, doesn’t exist. Let’s take a closer look at the specs and key features of both these smartphones.

Google Pixel 5 specifications, key features

Google Pixel 5

The first thing of note about the Pixel 5 is that it no longer sports a flagship-grade Snapdragon 8 series chipset. Instead, Google has chosen the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset – which, if we may add – is quite a powerful 5G capable SoC. The Pixel 5 gets 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The display used on the Pixel 5 is a flexible OLED panel with FHD+ resolution in the 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The display also gets a small punch-hole for the front camera. The display supports HDR content and has a 90Hz refresh rate. The Pixel 5 gets a 4,000 mAh battery with support for 18W USB-PD 2.0 fast charging. Wireless charging is also supported at the same speed. The phone also supports the reverse wireless charging feature.

The camera setup on the Google Pixel 5 includes a 12.2 MP dual-pixel camera with f/1.7 aperture and support for OIS. The secondary camera uses a 16MP sensor with a 107-degree, f/2.2 ultra-wide lens. At the front, the phone gets a single fixed-focus 8MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture and an 83-degree field of view. Video recording using the rear camera tops out at 4K 60 FPS while for the front camera, it tops out at FHD 60 FPS. The phone gets a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for fast unlocking. Connectivity options on the Google Pixel 5 include Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz 802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth v5.0 + LE, A2DP, NFC, Google Cast, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS.

The phone runs Android 11 at launch and will get three years of OS and security updates. The two available color options include Just Black and Sorta Sage. The phone has been priced at  $699 and is out for pre-order already.

Google Pixel 4a 5G specifications, key features

Pixel 4a 5G

The second handset that Google announced yesterday is an updated 5G variant of the Pixel 4a. The phone goes by the Pixel 4a 5G moniker and gets a 6.2-inch FHD+ OLED panel in the 19.5;9 aspect ratio. Like Pixel 5, this display also supports HDR content and is a 24-bit panel that can display 16 million colors. There are tiny differences in the two 5G variants of the phone (5G-Sub-6 and 5G mmWave + Sub-6), with the former being slightly thinner and lighter than the latter. Strange as it may seem, the larger Pixel4a 5G actually gets a smaller battery (3,800 mAh as opposed to 4,000 mAh) than the Pixel 5.

The phone comes powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset we saw on the Pixel 5. The only difference is that the Pixel 4a 5G gets 6GB of RAM instead of 8GB on the Pixel 5. The camera setup on the Pixel 4a 5G is also similar to the Pixel 5 with the dual 12.2MP + 16MP camera setup. Video recording capability is also identical with the ear camera topping out at 4K 60FPS and the front camera at FHD 30 FPS. The phone also supports 18W fast charging with USB-PD 2.0 and also gets a 3.5mm audio jack. Connectivity options are also identical to the Pixel 5. As expected, the phone runs Android 11 at launch.

The Google Pixel 4a 5G comes in two color options: Just Black and Clearly White, and the prices start at $499.
