Vivo has expanded its budget line-up with the launch of a new Y series smartphone. The new device is called the Vivo Y12s and prima facie, it looks like a mid-life update to the Vivo Y12 which is currently sold in India. The Y12s is currently on sale in Hong Kong and Vietnam. There is a good chance that the handset would eventually make it to India as well. Let’s now take a look at the specifications and features of the Vivo Y12s.
Vivo Y12s specifications, features
The Vivo Y12s is a fairly large phone that features a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution (720 x 1600 pixels) and the now common 20:9 aspect ratio. In case you care about the dimensions, it measures 164.41 x 76.32 x 7.41mm, and it is pretty hefty at just over 191 grams.
Unlike its predecessor, the Vivo Y12 which came powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 SoC, the Y12s gets a MediaTek Helio PP35 chipset. The variant sold currently gets 3GB of RAM and just 32GB of internal storage. There is a good chance that we will also see the phone launch with a 64GB variant if and when it comes to India. The Y12s also gets a microSD card slot for memory expansion.
The camera setup on the Vivo Y12s includes a single 8-megapixel front-facing camera and a dual-camera array at the rear that includes a 13-megapixel primary camera that uses an f/1.8 lens and a 2-megapixel secondary camera that gets an f/2.4 lens. The phone runs Vivo’s FunTouch OS 11 which is based on Android 10.
Typical of handsets in its class, the Vivo Y12s gets a large 5,000mAh battery. However, it only supports 10W charging and does not come with either a fast charger. The Y12s is well-equipped in terms of connectivity features and comes with support for dual SIM cards, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, micro USB, and 3.5mm audio jack. Like many handsets nowadays, the phone gets a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that supports face unlock.
Vivo Y12s price, availability
The Vivo Y12s is currently on sold in Hong Kong for HK$ 1098. This translates to just over USD 142 and INR 10,000. The phone is available on two colour options: Phantom Black and Glacier Blue. There is no word as yet if the Y12s would officially make it to the Indian market. Even if it does, the company will either need to customise the specs or price it way lower than the Rs 10,000-mark for the phone to remain competitive.
