AMD Launches FidelityFX Super Resolution to Take on Nvidia’s DLSS; Godfall 150fps Gameplay on RX 6800 XT GPU Showcased

AMD has finally introduced the competitor of NVIDIA’s DLSS technology. The company has launched the all-new FidelityFX Super Resolution aka FSR technology to enhance the gaming experience. The technology uses artificial intelligence along with upscaling technology to give a boost to demanding games. For those who are not aware, NVIDIA uses a similar technology known as DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) to boost the frame rate performance of a game. The latest AMD technology will be available as an open-source solution and will be compatible with over 100 CPUs and GPUs in the market. AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution Announced

AMD has introduced a new software known as FidelityFX Super Resolution, which will be available to the public starting from June 22, 2021. The software helps to enhance the frame rate performance of demanding games. The brand says that 4K games will see up to 2x performance boost with this technology.

The company gave an example of Godfall. The game was running on RX 6800 XT GPU in 4K with ray tracing activated. This delivered an underwhelming performance of 47fps. However, the moment Super Resolution was turned, the game was running at an impressive 150 fps.

Should NVIDIA Worry?

The new technology from AMD comes in direct competition with NVIDIA’s DLSS. NVIDIA introduced this feature for its RTX graphics cards. The feature uses artificial intelligence to boost a game’s frame rate performance to give an enhanced gaming experience. However, this feature is only restricted to the flagship graphics cards.

However, AMD has confirmed that its FidelityFX Super Resolution or FSR will be an open-source platform. This simply means that it will be compatible with over 100 CPUs and GPUs, including the ones that feature NVIDIA graphics. AMD says that it wants to increase the incentive for developers to support the technology. That said, AMD is yet to reveal the list of compatible titles that will support its latest technology.
