Apple Executives Explain Why There’s No FaceID, Touchscreen in MacBooks

Apple launched the new MacBook Pro last month in India and other international markets. The new MacBooks comes with Apple’s most powerful chips called the M1 Pro and M1 Max. The new chips bring with them significant performance and efficiency claims. Alongside, the new Apple laptops also got a major redesign with the return of the SD card slot and HDMI port. Apple also shrunk the bezels around the display and introduced a notch. One might think that this notch also houses the Face ID setup but that is not the case. When asked by Wall Street Journal (via 9to5Mac), Apple executives explained the reasons for not including Face ID to the Macs.

Apple’s new MacBook Pro continues to feature Touch ID and the top right corner of the top case. Tom Boger, Apple’s vice president of iPad and Mac product marketing, believes that Touch ID is “more convenient on a laptop since your hands are already on the keyboard.” While that response (and logic) might be fair to some extent, one could argue that something like Face ID (or Windows Hello, for that matter) is even more convenient as the screen is also right in front of the user’s face.

MacBooks not getting touch support anytime soon

The publication also asked Apple the reason for not including touch support on the Macs. John Ternus, Apple’s senior VP of hardware engineering, said that a touch-enabled Mac was never in Apple’s mind. “We make the world’s best touch computer on an iPad. It’s totally optimised for that. And the Mac is totally optimised for indirect input. We haven’t really felt a reason to change that,” he said. So in case you are waiting for that one Mac machine with touch-screen support, you are likely to be disappointed.

The executives further revealed that water-resistant MacBooks is “not on many people’s list” and that users are unlikely to get the option to upgrade the hardware post-purchase due to Mac’s unified memory architecture.

While still not confirmed, fans have been able to quickly put one and two together and surmise this as a new PUBG Mobile event that brings a little League of Legends flavour to the game. As to what exactly this event is, is still to be discovered – an invasion angle seems fitting, since that is how the post is building it up to be.

Nokia launched the rugged Nokia XR20 smartphone in India last month. The device was unveiled in India for Rs 52,999. The pre-order of the Nokia XR20 in India started on October 20th. Now, the handset is available for purchase in India for a lowered price of Rs 46,999. You can get up to a Rs 6,000 discount on the purchase of the handset via Nokia’s website. To recall, the device features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 480 chipset. The other key features of the handset include 6GB of RAM, 48MP dual-camera setup, and a 4,630mAh battery.

Nokia XR20 Goes On Sale In India, Price, Availability

The Nokia XR20 comes in Granite and Ultra Blue colour options. The device was launched in the country for Rs 52,999. However, currently, the handset is selling for a lowered price of Rs 46,999. The smartphone comes in sole 6GB RAM + 128GB storage configuration. The device can be purchased in India via Nokia’s official website. As of now, the handset is not available for sale in India via any e-commerce platform. It is said that the XR20 will be available in offline stores in the upcoming days.

Nokia XR20 Specifications, Features

Starting with the design of the handset first, the Nokia XR20 has a MIL-STD810H-certified build. On the back of the phone, there’s a dual-camera setup. The handset features a punch-hole display, where the punch-hole houses the selfie camera. The display panel is of 6.67-inches. The 20:9 larger aspect ratio display has Full HD+ resolution, 550 nits of maximum brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. While both the wearables were announced a few days back globally, the brand has not revealed the pricing of the Redmi Watch 2 Lite and Redmi Smart Band Pro. Let’s take a look at the specification and features. 

Redmi Watch 2 Lite Specs and Features

The new Redmi Watch comes in three colour options – Ivory, Black, Blue and Pink. Also, there are three strap options – Olive, and Brown. On the front, the Redmi Watch 2 Lite sports a 1.55-inch touch screen colour display with support for over 100 watch faces. It has a button on the side for navigation. The wearable comes with a built-in GPS chip for tracking activities. The watch supports four major global positioning systems – GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BDS. 

Further, it supports over 100 fitness modes that include walking, running, outdoor cycling, hiking, trail run, elliptical, rower, jump rope, yoga and more. The watch is also 5ATM water-resistant. In terms of health-related features, the Redmi Watch 2 Lite comes with a SpO2 monitor to measure blood-oxygen levels and a 24/7 heart rate tracker. There’s also sleep monitoring, stress monitoring, breathing exercise, female health tracking, and lastly, the wearable also supports strava and Apple health integration. 

On a single charge, the wearable will offer up to 10 days of battery life and up to 14 hours with continuous GPS usage. Other features include music control, weather, message notification, DND, call alerts, alarm, find my phone, and timer.

The Redmi Smart Band Pro is an upgrade over last year’s Redmi Smart Band. It flaunts a 1.47-inch AMOLED display on the front with Alway-on mode. The screen has a max 450 nit brightness and also supports over 50 band faces. The smart band supports 110+ fitness modes and can also detect treadmill, outdoor running and outdoor walking automatically. The band is also 5ATM water-resistant.

Further, the Redmi Smart Band Pro comes with a 24-hour heart rate monitor, SpO2 tracker, and sleep quality tracker. Stress monitoring, breathing exercise, and female health tracking are also present. The band will last up to 14 days on a single charge and it can be charged with the included magnetic charger. It will have a waterdrop notch at the top of the display for the front camera. It will have a glass back with a plastic frame.

As per the leaked images, the device will have a Blue colour option with a gradient finish. It has a rectangular-shaped camera module with a triple-camera setup on the back. The device’s primary camera will house a 64MP primary camera. It will also come with an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP tertiary sensor. For selfies, the water-drop notch will house a 50MP front camera sensor.

Other details leaked include the battery specs of the device. It will have a 4,030 mAh battery with 44W fast charging support. The phone will also feature an under-display fingerprint scanner coupled with face unlock for biometric authentication. It runs Android 11-based Funtouch OS 12 out of the box and does not feature a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Lastly, the device is rumoured to launch for 10M Dong, which is roughly Rs 32,700. We can expect the device to launch in India soon at a slightly lower price.
