The Honor 50 and 50 Lite smartphones have been launched globally, closely following their recent launch in Malaysia. Among other factors, one of the key aspects about the new smartphones is the presence of Google Mobile Services, which includes the Google Play Store as well. This makes the Honor 50 and 50 Lite to be among the first phones from Honor to feature Google services in recent times. The latter was banned on Honor phones as a result of the Huawei ban, but the latter has since sold its sub-brand — which now operates independently.
Honor 50, 50 Lite: prices and availability
The Honor 50 has been launched in global markets in two variants — with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage at EUR 529 (approx. 46,000), and with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage at EUR 599 (approx. Rs 52,000). It will be up for preorders until November 3, and sales begin November 4. Early buyers will also get the Honor Earbuds 2 Lite true wireless earphones free with the smartphone. The 50 Lite, meanwhile, has only one variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, which costs EUR 299 (approx. Rs 26,000). Sales of this smartphone begins November 18.
Key specifications
Starting with the Honor 50, the smartphone features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G SoC inside, along with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The device features a 6.57-inch full HD+ OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling rate. It houses a quad rear camera setup with 108MP main, 8MP ultra-wide and two 2MP units for depth assistance and macro shots. Up front, a drill hole slot features a 32MP camera for selfies and video calls. The smartphone is powered by MagicUI 4.2 based on Android 11, and also has a 4,300mAh battery with 66W fast charging. The device is 7.8mm thick, and weighs 175g.
The Honor 50 Lite, meanwhile, likely runs on the Snapdragon 662 SoC, along with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Unlike its pricier brethren, the 50 Lite is a 4G phone (and not 5G). It features a 6.67-inch full HD+ LCD display with 120Hz refresh rate, and a drill hole slot features a 16MP front camera on it. To the rear, the quad camera setup features a similar configuration, but replaces the 108MP unit with a 64MP one here. Other features such as in-display fingerprint sensor, as well as battery specs, remain the same as the Honor 50.
