Popular audio accessories firms, Denon and Marantz have successfully integrated Airplay 2 support for these its range of devices. The audio accessories from the firms will receive firmware updates that will provide support to Airplay 2 support.
Airplay 2 update features:
With the update now, devices from Denon and Marantz will be able to support multi-room audio streaming. Apart from these devices will now be able to work with other Airplay 2 devices like the Apple TV, Sonos Speakers and Homepod. Both the companies now have a full range of devices that offer compatibility with Apple’s Airplay 2 technology.
For reference, users can view a list of all devices that are compatible with the Airplay 2 technology on Apple’s Homekit website. However, as of now, the tech giant hasn’t listed both Denon and Marantz yet, as the Airplay 2 update is still being rolled out to users. The listing is expected to live once the update has successfully rolled out and with a significant number of users have received the update for their devices.
However, popular website Poor Audiophile, released a list of Airplay 2 compatible devices way back in May on its website and both Denon and Marantz were listed as companies that offer Airplay 2 compatible devices. Despite this, both these companies have only just launched support for Airplay 2. Both the companies are owned by the holding company Sound United. It is of no wonder that both the companies have simultaneously offered support for Airplay 2.
The Japanese companies Denon and Marantz had been brought under a single roof with a merger and were rebranded as D & M Holdings. However, subsequently D & M Holdings was acquired by Sound LLC, which also owns another popular audio device brand – Polk and the companies have now again been separated and work as competing entities but owned by the same parent.

Polk:
On the other hand, the third company in Sound LLC, Polk, has also not been listed on Apple’s HomeKit website for support on Airplay 2. However the brand provides support for Airplay as of now, but it isn’t sure if the company will offer support for Airplay 2 as well, any time soon. Another brand owned by Sound LLC is Definitive Technology, which has also not yet received the Airplay 2 support for Apple devices. It is expected that this will be receiving support in the near future.
Airplay 2:
Airplay 2, which was launched in May 2018, is an upgrade to Apple’s proprietary wireless streaming protocol. Earlier branded as Airplay, an update was provided and this has been upgraded to Airplay 2 earlier this year. One of the most important features that the company introduced in the Airplay 2 update is the ability to stream music on multiple speakers/devices. The multi-room streaming capability has made Airplay 2 popular, as now users can stream different songs/media in different rooms with speakers using a single iPhone or iPad or any other compatible device.
Some of the other impressive features in the update include the ability to separate audio content between the left and right speakers and better playlist options, including an up next playlist feature. Users can now take a call while still listening to music. It will be interesting to see which other devices receive the support for Airplay 2 next.
