Bad news comes for Twitter users who has been on the app on an older iPhone running iOS 9. According to Twitter, it will end support for its app on iOS 9 software. The news appeared in the changelog for the most recent app update. From the latest version onwards, the app will only work on devices with iOS 10 or later.
This is not a bad move by Twitter, as it will help the company to better focus on developing for the newer OS and improving its app for the users. Several companies stop supporting older iOS version once newer versions are out. Usually it continues to provide support for a few years after a new version is out. And Twitter has done that.

iOS 9 is three versions old now, as most current iPhone and iPads are running on iOS 11, and iOS 12 is only a few months away. The new versions of iOS will also have improved framework, and features. Some new features will not work on older version of iOS. Thus, it is better that the company stops support for older versions.

Apps from social media outlets such as Snapchat, LinkedIn, and several others, have already stopped supporting iOS 9. If you need to use these apps, you have to get a new phone that can run iOS 10 or later. iOS 11 is supported on iPhone 5S and later, so even if you’ve got an old iPhone, it is okay for now.
Apple will soon be releasing iOS 12, most likely along with the new range of iPhones in September. A lot of things will change with the new OS, and once again, apps will stop supporting older versions. iOS 12 beta is already under testing and brings plenty of new features, and more.
iOS is not as fragmented as Android, so it is okay for companies to stop providing support for older versions. Usually, Apple users, tend to update to the latest available OS for their device. Apple only has a bunch of devices to address, whereas on Android, there’s thousands of devices from so many companies. According to Apple’s recent user data, just five percent of users are running iOS 9 on their devices. That is still a large amount of Apple users, but it is not as large a number for Twitter.
As of now, Twitter has about 335 million active users on a monthly basis. Out of that, a big chunk of users have an Android device. Therefore, the iOS user base that has iOS 9 on their devices, isn’t a lot. Twitter has been losing users though, and has shut down access to several third-party apps as well. It also stopped support for the Mac client. The company has been slowly getting rid of things it doesn’t require anymore.

So, if for some reason, you are still on iOS 9 and want to get the latest features of the Twitter app, then you will have to update to a newer version of iOS.
