Huawei EMUI 9.0 Based on Android 9 Pie Will be Presented at IFA Event; P20 Phones to Receive First

Huawei making an appearance at the IFA 2018 trade show being held later this month in Berlin can mean a lot of things. It might signal that the company will launch is its Kirin 980 chipset, the company’s first ever chipset to be made using the 7nm technology. However, Huawei will also be revealing its latest UI update named EMUI 9.0 and it will be based on Google’s latest and greatest Android 9 Pie update.

Huawei EMUI 9.0: Changelog, Features

A Huawei spokesperson told a media publication that the smartphone manufacturer would be releasing its newest UI version next month, and it is going to be named EMUI 9.0. What benefits are going to be present in EMUI 9.0 have not been detailed, but we are guessing that it could introduce a better file management system than the one running with the EMUI 8.1 update. This file management system is designed to prevent the eventual slowdown of Huawei smartphones thanks to a fragmented Android OS.

The new file management system could enable faster operation of Huawei and Honor smartphones, especially those that are cheaper, making them more convenient to use and delivering customer satisfaction in the end. However, EMUI 9.0 is not going to be running on the Huawei smartphone immediately. When the publication asked which were the first devices that will be receiving the latest update, the Huawei spokesperson replied that the P20 series would get them first.

This would include the P20, the P20 Pro and of course, the P20 Lite. The person did not answer when the remaining devices will receive it, but it will obviously be later in the year.

Huawei P20 Pro: Specifications, Features

The Huawei P20 Pro features a 6.1-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2240 x 1080, resulting in an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The design of the flagship is such that it is also IP67 dust and water-resistant. The performance of the P20 Pro comes from its 10nm FinFET Kirin 970, which features an octa-core processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There is only one variant that Huawei launched and this is all you get. There are certain omissions of the flagship that Huawei made when it officially launched the P20 Pro.

Firstly, there is no expandable storage slot, but you do get a dual-SIM option. However, you will not be able to insert a microSD card in the smartphone and expand that existing storage. Another thing missing from the smartphone is the 3.5mm headphone jack, but you can still use a USB-C adapter and listen to music. The true highlight of the smartphone is its triple-camera sensor, which features a 40 + 20 + 8MP configuration at the back.

It is only the second smartphone in the world right now that provides up to 3x optical zoom, and it also supports GPU Turbo technology. There is a single 24MP selfie shooter at the front that also provides 1080p video recording support at 30fps. Connectivity options for the P20 Pro include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 with LE, EDR, A2DP, GPS, A-GPS, NFC, Infrared, and an FM radio.

There is a 4000mAh battery to keep the lights of the flagship on, along with a front-mounted fingerprint reader and fast-charging support that can fuel the smartphone with up to 22 watts of power. The smartphone is running Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.1 on top.

Huawei P20 Pro: Price in India

As mentioned above, there is just a single P20 Pro variant being sold in India and this comes at a price of Rs. 64999. With the future of the Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro, the price of this flagship might drop, making it more affordable for lots of customers.
