HydrogenOS Beta 2 for the OnePlus 6 brings September security patch

HydrogenOS is a ROM developed by OnePlus that can run on all of its devices but with one major difference – it comes without Google Services such as the Play Store or Google Pay. You may not have heard of HydrogenOS before since the company’s mainstream software implementation is called OxygenOS that comes with the OnePlus 6, but it appears that it is HydrogenOS that is receiving updates first.

The history of getting updated ahead of OxygenOS is once again demonstrated as the Android Pie based ROM got the 2nd Beta issued and with it brings the September security patch.

User harshitguliani posted on OnePlus forums about the update that seems to address a number of things. Here’s the full HydrogenOS Beta 2 changelog:

OnePlus are very quickly squashing any bugs that are present in the Android Pie builds and it also contains all of the OnePlus added features and tweaks that it applies on top of the vanilla Android builds, so you can expect it to be pretty stable.

Despite the base OS not integrating any Google Services, you are still able to sideload the Google Play Store by installing the APK as is the benefit and flexibility that Android offers.
