OnePlus 6 Starts Receiving Android 9 Pie Based HydrogenOS Beta 2 Update; Here’s the Changelog

OnePlus has rolled out the HydrogenOS Beta 2 update for the OnePlus 6 based on Android 9.0 Pie. The first update for the smartphone based on the latest Android version was released earlier this month.

A OnePlus user posted the latest update information on the forum, sharing the screenshots of the update. The screenshots disclose multiple bug fixes and improvements that include System, Launcher, Phone, Status bar, settings, and more. Note that the HydrogenOS is the software that the device runs on in China. For global markets, the update goes by OxygenOS.

The update brings fixes and optimizations for phone, system, settings, and other major functionalities. As mentioned in the changelog, the system gets an updated Android security patch to 2018.9, improved touchscreen sensitivity, optimized standby power consumption, optimized stability for Bluetooth connection, Furthermore, the company has also added global roaming solution to the system.

The new beta update also comes with the fix for caller interface display for incoming phone calls. As for the launcher, the update has also fixed the issues with icons not displaying correctly in the dock area and the double swipe arrow appearing in the launcher. The device was having troubles with the status bar drop-down display
and there were also reports of the bar popping up intermittently. With the new beta update, both the issues have been fixed. In the settings department, the intermittent crashing when accessing display settings in dark mode has been fixed. The update also takes care of the issues where the lock screen interface was not displaying battery percentage correctly while charging. Furthermore, the intermittent weather crashes have been fixed and the beta 2 update also comes with optimizations for the “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” game on the device.

The OnePlus 6 comes with an Optic AMOLED display reading 6.28-inches diagonally with 1080 x 2280 Full HD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The display is protected by a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 coverage. Under the hood, the flagship device from Oneplus 6 is powered by an octa-core 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor clocked at up to 2.8 GHz with an Adreno 630 graphics unit. In the memory department, the OnePlus 6 offers three configurations – 6GB RAM + 64GB storage, 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage.

Moving on to optics, the OnePlus 6 features a 16MP + 20MP dual-camera setup at the back with a Sony IMX519 primary sensor with 1.22um pixel size and a Sony IMX376K secondary sensor with 1.0um pixel size. Both the image sensors on the on the rear feature a large f/1.7 aperture. The OnePlus 6 can shoot videos at up to 4K Ultra HD resolution with a frame rate of up to 60 fps. The device also supports features like Super Slow Motion videos in HD resolution with a frame rate of up to 480 fps. The front of the device houses a 16MP Sony IMX371 shooter that offers features like Portrait Mode, HDR, EIS, Screen Flash features, and more. You can use the Face Unlock feature for unlocking the device within split-seconds. The other biometrics options that the smartphone offers is a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The device is fuelled by a 3300mAh capacity non-removable battery with the signature Dash Charge technology for fast charging. The OnePlus 6 is also touted for water resistance and comes with Dirac HD Sound and Dirac Power Sound. The connectivity options that tag along with the OnePlus 6 include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, NFC, USB Type-C port, and dual 4G VoLTE.
