OnePlus 6 to Get New UI that is Tested on OnePlus 5, 5T With the Upcoming Software Update: Report

OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T now receiving OxygenOS 5.1.2 Update; OnePlus 6 Always-On Ambient Display feature removed

Folks using the OxygenOS Open Beta software on the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T were introduced to a new UI design earlier this month. The new design brought several changes to UI elements in OxygenOS, inbuilt apps, and more. Now, it looks like OnePlus will be bringing the same UI to the OnePlus 6 (Review) as well.

OnePlus made an official post on its forum stating why it brought the new design changes, and how the users have liked it so far. The new design focuses on making the elements more flat, and minimalistic. It also aims on being more natural and bold, giving importance to the most important parts of an app or UI.

According to OnePlus, more than 80 percent of OnePlus users enjoyed the new design of the UI. Yes, there were some complaints from users, but the company will take the criticism and work on improving the design. OnePlus listens to its community, and that has been one of its best aspects.

We started our design based on the direction our key words took us in. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. Now we have a new version of our visual style with a special font and new icons for a truly OnePlus feel. Individuality is at the heart of what we do. That’s what we want to give you through the OnePlus construct.

As of now, the new UI design is only available on the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. If you are someone who uses the OxygenOS Open Beta software on either of the devices, then you must be familiar with the new design.

OnePlus 6: New UI Design

In the post, where OnePlus detailed its new design available on the Open Beta software for OnePlus 5/5T, a user asked if the design will make its way to the OnePlus 6. A staff member replied in the affirmative, and said that it will come to the OnePlus 6 in an upcoming software update.

The OnePlus 6 is currently running Android 8.1 Oreo software, and we reckon that a new update will bring the changes to the UI. There are going to be several changes, ranging from small UI elements, to complete app revamps. OnePlus apps such as Weather, Clock, File Manager, Gallery, Calendar, Messages, and Phone, have seen a complete redesign.

OnePlus has also brought changes to the font and stock icons with the new design. You will notice the changes in the Notification menu, Quick Settings, the Settings app, and throughout the UI. According to the company, it has been working on the new design for over a year.

We are not sure when exactly the new design will be available to OnePlus 6 users, but it is coming soon. Most likely, the next software update will have the new design. The new design may be available in Android 9.0 Pie as well. Of course, OnePlus will add its custom UI over the stock Android design. However, the OnePlus UI is very close to the stock Android feel, so you will not be disappointed.

Right now, OnePlus is also testing Android 9.0 Pie on the OnePlus 6, via Closed Beta software. You can sign up to test the beta software and experience the new features and design.
