Looks like this month has been the month of sub-brands. From Huawei’s sub-brand Honor who launched the Honor Play to Xiaomi’s new sub-brand Poco launching the Poco F1, this has been a busy month for us gadget reviewers. Just before we close this month, Oppo decided it was about time they updated their own sub-brand Realme. This is why we are here in Delhi for the Realme 2 launch event where the company just a few minutes ago launched the Realme 2 officially in the country, Let us now take a quick look at what the Realme 2 has on offer for you the consumer.
Oppo Realme 2 Specifications, hardware
The Realme 2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC and comes in two versions a base 3GB version with 32GB storage and a higher priced 64GB variant with 4GB of RAM. The display on the device is a notched (why not?) 6.2-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels in the tall 19:9 aspect ratio. The handset also boasts of an extremely high screen to body ratio of 88.8% which is significantly higher than its predecessor the Realme 1 which has a screen to body ratio of 75.7%. The dual-SIM capable handset uses a triple SIM slot that takes in two SIM cards and one MicroSD card at the same time.
The camera department on the Realme 2 is handled by a 13-megapixel primary camera at the rear mated to a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The Realme 1 on the other hand only came with a single 13-megapixel unit at the rear which did not seem competitive enough. The Realme 2 will also support a bunch of AI features that should claim to improve the images captured. At the front, the Realme 2 gets an 8-megapixel camera for selfies.
Powering the hardware is a large 4230 mAh battery that should easily help the handset last a day with nominal usage.
Realme 2: Software
The Realme 2 boasts of a brand new and enhanced user interface that is based on the latest version of Oppo’s ColorOS 5.1. The handset gets several software-based features like AI Power Master, AI Gaming Acceleration and AI Shot. Then there is the new Smart Drive mode where the phone will automatically detect that you are driving and then reduce the less important app notifications. The handset also comes with three smart unlock options – Fingerprint Unlock, Facial Unlock and Smart Unlock.
Oppo Realme 2 price in India, launch date
The Realme 2 has been launched as a Flipkart exclusive in India and will go on sale starting September 4 at 12-noon. The handset will set you back by Rs. 8,990 for the base version and Rs.10,990 for the higher priced version.
