Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Porsche RAM, Storage Variants Leaked Ahead of October 16 Launch

Expected to come with a gargantuan display, in display fingerprint sensor, and of course one of the fastest processors on the market, the upcoming Mate 20 series can outshine competition this month. The series has already leaked extensively and the rumors just don’t stop coming in. And now a tipster has revealed that storage configurations of the Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, and Mate 20 Porsche Edition.

The leak comes from the well-known leakster @RolandQuandt. If his tweets are any indication, the Mate 20 flagship smartphones will be available in many storage configurations. In fact, you usually do not find smartphones with so many memory variants in the market.

Coming to the storage configurations, the Huawei Mate 20, which is codenamed Hima, is expected to come in nine storage configurations: three variants with 4GB of RAM, paired with 64, 128, or 256GB of onboard memory, three models with 6GB of RAM, with 128,256, or 512GB of memory, and lastly, three variants with 8GB of RAM and 128, 256, and 512GB of ROM.

Moving up, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, internally codenamed Laya, is expected to come in two RAM variants, 6GB and 8GB, flanked by onboard memory ranging from 128GB to 512GB.

And lastly, the Huawei Mate 20 Porsche/Max edition is expected to come in two 4GB variants, two 6GB variants, and three 8GB variants, maxing out at 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal memory. It is interesting to see that this year’s Porsche Design comes with 4GB of RAM, as the Mate 10 Porsche Design was only available in the class-leading 6GB/256GB option.

Since the tipster got this scoop from a TENAA listing, this is more than just a rumor. However, it is unlikely that all the variants will be available in all the launch markets. Large memory is one of the major selling points of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (review), and the Apple iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, and it is only natural that Huawei wants to leave no stone unturned in matching its rivals.

Huawei Mate 20 Series: Launch Date

Huawei is expected to unveil the Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, and Mate 20 Porsche edition on October 16 in a dedicated event in London. Since the Chinese smartphone maker usually starts selling its Mate series smartphones in the month of November, it is hard to say when the Mate 20 series smartphones will start retailing as two weeks will be too long a stretch. Given the recent spat with the U.S. government, it is unlikely that the phones will make it to the stateside.

There aren’t a lot of price rumors, but we can expect the Huawei Mate 20 to cost more than the Huawei P20 Pro, which starts at Rs. 64,999. The price of the Mate 20 Pro would obviously be even steeper. And lastly, the Mate 20 Porsche Design will command an even higher price, given the fact that last year’s Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Design starts at Rs.106,999.

Huawei Mate 20 Series: What We Know So Far?

The Mate 20 series smartphones will be underpinned by the Huawei built Kirin 980 processor, the company’s first SoC to be made using the 7nm process. Apart from that, it will also mark the debut of the Mali-G76 GPU and Cortex A76, making the phones all the more powerful. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is also expected to have 3D face recognition capabilities. Following in the footsteps of the P20 Pro, which DxOMark calls the phone with the best camera on the market, the Mate 20 series smartphones will also be equipped with Leica sensors.
