LG V50 ThinQ Could be Company’s First 5G Smartphone that Could Launch at MWC 2019 Alongside LG G8

With little less than a month left for the 2019 Mobile World Congress to start, we have started hearing about new handsets that could be unveiled at the event. Among the handsets that could be unveiled during and on the sidelines of MWC 2019 include the new Samsung Galaxy S series, new flagship and entry-level devices from Nokia, and several other manufacturers. Another company that is planning to launch new handsets at MWC 2019 is LG. According to a report by Korean publication ETNews, LG is likely to release a brand new V-series smartphone at MWC 2019. This device – which is also likely to be 5G ready – could be the LG V50 ThinQ. The company is also likely to launch a G Series smartphone at the same event which in all likelihood would be the LG G8 ThinQ.

LG V50 ThinQ and LG G8 ThinQ: What we know so far

The LG V50 ThinQ will unsurprisingly succeed the LG V40 ThinQ from 2018. While we do not know the full specifications of this yet, it will be certainly an upgrade over the V40 model. As for the LG G8 ThinQ, unlike the new V50 ThinQ which will be 5G ready, the former will only be LTE capable. Both the devices are expected to be announced on February 24. Incidentally, this would be the first time that LG’s V series and G Series devices would see a simultaneous launch. That being said, there have also been rumors floating around that suggests the possibility of the LG G8 ThinQ being the last G Series handset from the company. Moving forward, the LG will reportedly only concentrate on the flagship V series line.

As for availability, the LG V50 ThinQ is likely to be priced over the $1000 mark in most markets. In the U.S., the phone will be made available through Sprint.

LG V50 ThinQ: Expected Specifications

While we do not know the complete details yet, the LG V50 ThinQ is likely to be powered by the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. Based on a 7nm manufacturing process, the SD 855 gets four Kryo 485 Silver high-efficiency cores operating at 1.8 GHz, three Kryo 485 Gold cores operating at 2.42 GHz, and another higher-performance Kryo 485 Gold core operating at 2.84 GHz. For graphics, this chipset uses the new Adreno 640 GPU. The SoC also supports up to 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM although it remains to be seen how much RAM the LG V50 ThinkQ will feature. The phone is also rumored to feature a vapor chamber cooling mechanism. The display on the LG V50 ThinQ is likely to be a 6-inch Quad HD panel – most likely a P-OLED panel.  The phone will run the newest version of Android 9 Pie underneath LG’s improved UI.

We still do not know the rest of the specifications of the LG V50 Thinq. But there is no reason to believe that this device would not match the new devices from players like Samsung, Sony and Chinese players like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo. Anyway, we will post more details of the V50 ThinQ as and when we get more information on the device.
