Microsoft might have a surprise in store for all its users. If a new leak has to be believed, we might soon be getting the Windows 10X update on our laptops and other Windows devices.
A little while ago, a Twitter user by the name Walking Cat has posted what appears to be a leaked document from Microsoft (that was immediately taken down). The leaked document gives us a lot of intel on the company’s upcoming OS.
Windows 10X leaked document images and features
So far, Microsoft has (officially) claimed that the new Windows 10X OS will only be made available on foldables and dual-screen devices, but the leaked document suggests that the company has plans for rolling it out to the conventional devices as well.
Notice the text written in the image below.
For both clamshells and foldables, the taskbar will be the same base model with a series of ‘levers’ which can be pulled to create some alternatives in the model
The Start menu will be dubbed “Launcher” in Windows 10X
Starting from Windows 10X, the Start Menu will be referred to as the Launcher. The document reads –
Search is seamlessly integrated with web results, available apps, and specific files on your device
The search results will be based on your most frequently used apps and files and your browser history and website preferences.
Recommended content is dynamically updated based on your most frequently and recently used apps, files, and websites
Improved Hello facial recognition authentication
With Windows 10X, Microsoft’s Hello facial recognition authentication will also get a substantial improvement.
Unlike the old (and annoying) Windows 10 interface wherein the users had to dismiss the lock screen curtain before they could get to use the facial unlock feature, Windows 10X would take the users straight to a state of authentication.
When the screen turns on you are immediately brought to a state of authentication. Upon waking the device, Windows Hello Face instantly recognizes the user and will immediately transition to their desktop
Modern File Explorer will make its way to the Windows ecosystem
With Windows 10X, we will get to see the new Modern File Explorer which will be more simplified and will have a deeper integration within the system. The new File Explorer will be all the way more simplified for access to documents stored in Office 365, OneDrive, and other cloud services.
Speaking of simplification, Windows 10X will further simplify the likes of the Action Center and Quick Settings. The settings toggles will now be deeply connected and important aspects of the ecosystem will be way easier to approach directly from the Quick Settings.
To make things better in terms of Office, Windows 10X will pay more emphasis towards the Progressive Web Apps versions of the various Office tools, thereby ensuring a much-lighter ecosystem.
As of now, this is all we know about the upcoming Windows 10X, but we will get more intel on the same in the coming days.
