Facebook’s New Tool “Syncs” Lets You Transfer Pictures To Google Photos

Facebook released a new tool called Syncs  that allows people to sync their images directly to Google Photos. The tool will be introduced in Ireland for the first time and will be available world
wide by the first half of 2020.

“For almost a decade, we’ve enabled people to download their information from Facebook. The photo transfer tool we’re starting to roll out today is based on code developed through our participation in the open-source Data Transfer Project.” Steve Satterfield, director of privacy and public policy at Facebook said.+

“We are currently testing this tool, so we will continue refining it based on feedback from people using it as well as from our conversations with stakeholders,” Satterfield also noted this.

Last year’s Data Transfer Project (DTP) is an open-source, service-to-service data portability platform that includes participants like Apple, Google, Microsoft, Twitter. Facebook might include other services in the near future.

Anyway, the online photo transfer tool from Facebook Syncs sends Google Photos a copy of all the photos and videos. Before sending, all the data is encrypted. Before starting the transfer, Facebook also asks users for the account password.

Most of the photos posted on the social network of Facebook will be backed up by Google, if you are a user of Facebook and Google Photos who opted for backup photos.

For many people who choose to backup images from Facebook, the tool can be helpful. The real usefulness still remains to be witnessed.
