Honor 9A, Honor 9S Likely to Launch in India on July 31 on Amazon and Flipkart, Respectively

Three months after Honor launched its entry-level phones, the Honor 9A and Honor 9S in Russia, both these handsets are being officially India-bound. Honor, earlier today, sent out a press release announcing the impending launch of both these handsets for Indian consumers. What is interesting about this launch is that the company plans to sell both these handsets via rival e-commerce platforms. While the Honor 9A will be sold on Amazon, you’ll need to use Flipkart to buy the Honor 9S. In fact, Amazon has already made a landing page for the Honor 9A in which they revealed the sale date for the phone – July 31. This isn’t the case with Flipkart and the Honor 9S, though. That being said, chances are high; both the devices will go on sale on the same day.

Here’s a quick roundup of the specifications of the Honor 9A and the Honor 9S. We would, at the outset, also like to confirm that both these devices share the same SoC. There are differences in the RAM, storage capacity, camera, and other aspects, though.

Honor 9A specifications, key features

While both the phones in question here are entry-level devices, the Honor 9A is the better spec’d (and higher-priced) of the two. Powered by the 12nm Mediatek MT6762R Helio P22 chipset, the Honor 9A comes with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC internal storage. For graphics, the phone gets the PowerVR GE8320 chip. The phone features a large 5,000mAh battery but appears to lack support for fast charging or USB Type-C.

The display used on the Honor 9A is an HD+ (1600 x 720 pixels) IPS LCD panel that measures 6.3-inches across in the 20:9 aspect ratio. For security, the Honor 9A gets a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner as well. The dual SIM capable, 4G ready device gets a triple slot for the SIM cards and the microSD card.

Moving on to the camera, the Honor 9A gets a triple camera setup at the rear consisting of a 13MP F/1.8 PDAF wide-angle camera, A 5MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 5MP depth sensor. The front-facing camera uses an 8MP sensor with an f/2.0 wide-angle lens.

The phone runs Honor’s own Magic UI 3.1 atop an Android 10 core. There is no support for Google services because of the ongoing US-China trade war. You do get Huawei’s own HMS suite and the App Gallery for software and apps.

Honor 9S specifications, key features

As outlined earlier, the Honor 9S is positioned even below the Honor 9A even though both the handsets share the same Mediatek Helio P22 SoC. The difference here is that this handset comes with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. You do get the option to expand the memory as well. The battery capacity on the Honor 9S is significantly smaller than that of its sibling at just 3020 mAH.

The Honor 9S is also a significantly smaller device than the Honor 9A and features a 5.45-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels in the 18:9 aspect ratio. The single rear-facing camera uses an 8MP sensor while the front camera gets by with a 5MP sensor. The handset also appears to lack a dedicated fingerprint scanner.

Like the Honor 9A, this handset also runs Magic UI 3.1 atop Android 10. No Google services on this handset as well. We know that the Honor 9S will be on sale via Flipkart. No confirmation yet on the launch date or the pricing, though.
