Vodafone Idea today introduced eSIM help in the Delhi, Gujarat and Mumbai circles for its postpaid customers. Registered Vodafone and Idea customers would no longer have to insert a physical SIM card into their mobile phones to access their cellular network.
Registered users can access the network through the built-in SIM chip. The new support is only only for the latest iPhone models, but at a later stage it will be only extended to other phones.
If you are an current customer on the Vodafone Idea network, eSIM support can be used by sending a “eSIM email I d” SMS message at 199. If you do not have a registered email ID with your mobile phone, you are required to send an SMS “personal email I d” to 199. That will start the process of eSIM registration.
Upon confirmation of the email Address, the telco will send you an SMS from 199. To validate your request you must respond back with “ESIMY.” After that, you will receive a further 199 SMS message asking you to give your consent to a phone call. This will trigger an email to your registered email ID with a QR code which you need to search on your computer.
The new choice is initially available for recent iPhone models such as iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone SE (2020), iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR according to the report.
Until now it was only Airtel and Reliance Jio who provided eSIM support in India were the two telecom operators. However, Vodafone Concept gave an early glimpse of the new experience by last month announcing similar support for the country’s Apple Watch cellular models.
The service will be available on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Fold soon according to the report.
