Redmi 9i India Launch Date Announced, 4GB RAM, Big Battery and More in Tow

Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi has been on somewhat of a launch spree of late. The company only recently launched the Redmi 9 in India and just one day ago, came up with the Redmi Smart Band for the Indian market. As for the Redmi 9, that phone is a rebranded version of the Redmi 9C that was launched for other markets not too long ago. Today, Redmi India confirmed that it will launch yet another budget smartphone in the country. This new handset goes by the name Redmi 9i, and as previously reported by MySmartPrice, it is likely to be a rebranded version of the Redmi 9A (as it is known globally). Redmi India’s official Twitter ID confirmed the development, and thy company has already published a landing page for the launch event that is scheduled for September 15 at 12 noon.

As evident from the tweet above, the Redmi 9i is being touted as an affordable smartphone that is ‘big on entertainment.’ The landing page also indicates that it will feature ample RAM for multi-tasking, good space for storage of data, and a large display to consume content. The page also has an option that lets users sign up for updates and notifications to keep them abreast of the launch. Another thing evident from the launch teaser is that the Redmi 9i will be available via Flipkart.

While Redmi is yet to reveal the specifications of the Redmi 9i, if we are to believe a previous report by Pricebaba, this handset will likely come powered by the MediaTek Helio G25 SoC. While that report talks about a device with just 2GB of RAM, it is evident from the launch teaser that the Redmi 9i will get 4GB of RAM for the Indian market. It remains to be seen of there are multiple variants of the device with 2GB/4GB RAM options. The phone will also feature at least 32GB of internal storage with higher capacities possible.

Other specifications of the Redmi 9i include a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display with a waterdrop notch. The 20:9 screen has a resolution of 1,600 x 720 pixels.  Another thing that has been confirmed on the launch event page is the fact that the Redmi 91 will boot MIUI12 at launch. Little is known about the camera setup on the device. There is a good chance that we will see the Redmi 9i share the same camera unit as the one we saw on the Redmi 9A. This means we could see the Redmi 9A gets a vertical camera module with a single 13MP camera. The front-facing camera is likely to use a 5MP sensor.

Additional details of the phone should be out now that the India launch date has been confirmed.
