Apple M1 features

Apple claims that the M1 chipset features a unified memory architecture that brings together high-bandwidth, low-latency memory into a single pool within a custom package. The chipset comes with 8-core CPU that consist of four high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. The company claims that it is the world’s fastest CPU cores in low-power silicon. The brand says that one can use all four performance cores for a huge boost in multithreaded performance. The four high-efficiency cores deliver good performance at a tenth of the power.

The latest chipset from Apple is also touted to come with the most advanced GPU. The GPU features up to eight powerful cores that are capable of running nearly 25,000 threads simultaneously. This means it can handle demanding tasks with ease such as multiple 4K video streams to rendering complex 3D scenes.

The Apple M1 processor also brings Apple Neural Engine to the Mac, which accelerates machine learning tasks. It comes with 16-core architecture capable of 11 trillion operations per second. This allows for up to 15x faster machine learning performance.

Apple has also revealed that its latest macOS Big Sur fully optimised to take the leverage of the latest M1 chip. The company says that the macOS Big Sur will take full advantage of all the capabilities of the M1 to deliver a massive boost in performance. The company says that just like iPhone and iPad, Mac will now also instantly wakes from sleep. The Safari browser is now up to 1.5x speedier at running JavaScript. Apple says that all Mac software is now Universal and runs natively on M1 systems. Existing Mac apps that have not been updated to Universal will run seamlessly with Apple’s Rosetta 2 technology. Moreover, with the latest chipset iPhone and iPad apps can now run directly on the Mac.
