Apple Watch May Add Glucose, Alcohol Level, and Blood Pressure Monitoring Next Year

Apple Watch is known to offer a variety of fitness and health-related features. The company introduced Blood Oxygen (SpO2) monitoring in Series 6. Apple could introduce more such health and fitness features in future models. According to new reports, the company could introduce blood pressure monitoring alongside alcohol level monitoring in future Watch models. This falls in line with a patent filed by Apple hinting at the introduction of glucose level monitoring in the smartwatch. UK’s health tech firm Rockley Photonics has now confirmed that Apple could use its sensors as early as 2022. Let’s take a look at the upcoming Apple Watch features rumoured to launch next year.

Apple Watch likely to get major health-related features, including blood pressure monitoring

Apple is likely to introduce some breakthrough health features in future smartwatches. According to a new report, Apple Watch is likely to get blood pressure monitoring and alcohol level monitoring in 2022. The company is also said to introduce glucose level monitoring next year.

The report comes from Forbes and The Telegraph, citing a report on UK’s health tech firm Rockley Photonics. The health tech company, in a recent SEC filing, claimed that Apple is its biggest customer. Apple could use sensors made by Rockley Photonics as early as 2022. Details were leaked via the company’s listing documents, which revealed that the majority of its revenue came from Apple in the past two years.

Rockley Photonics’ CEO said that tech would be in consumer products by 2022. However, he did not reveal that the sensors would be used in Apple Watch. The report falls in line with a patent filed by Apple earlier this year. It had revealed that the iPhone maker is working on bringing glucose level monitoring on the Apple Watch.

The introduction of blood pressure monitoring in Apple’s smartwatch has been reported for quite some time. Meanwhile, the company is expected to launch Series 7 later this year. Not much is known about Series 7. We will share more details as and when some information is out.
