Asus ZenFone 8 Mini Tipped To be Smallest Snapdragon 888 Phone, How Bad Will it Heat Up?

Asus is gearing up for the Zenfone 8 series launch event. The company is expected to launch the vanilla Zenfone 8 and a “Mini” variant. Design images of the Zenfone 8 Mini have leaked days before its official launch event. A case maker alleged uploaded the design images of the upcoming Asus smartphone and was spotted first by Gadgets Tendency. As per the leaked images, the phone will have the power and volume keys on the right edge. On the back is a dual-camera setup inside a rectangular camera module. Let’s take a look at the Asus Zenfone 8 Mini design images, specifications, and other details.

Asus Zenfone 8 Mini design images and specifications leaked ahead of the May 12 launch event

Asus Zenfone 8 Mini is expected to launch on May 12. Ahead of the launch, the phone’s design images have leaked online.

The report by Gadgets Tendency shows off the upcoming Asus smartphone’s design. The images were accidentally uploaded by a case maker, revealing the sides and the rear panel. On the back, the 8 Mini will have a dual-camera setup with LED flash. The right edge of the phone has the volume and power buttons, leaving the left side flush.

Zenfone 8 mini specifications (rumoured)

Key specifications of the device have already leaked in the past. The phone is rumoured to sport a  5.92-inch OLED display. We can expect the phone to feature 120Hz refresh rate support. Under the hood, the phone will pack a 4000 mAh battery with 30W fast charging support. Considering the relatively compact form factor, it was expected that the phone will pack a smaller battery.

Asus is also rumoured to launch the device in multiple storage configurations. It will launch in 6GB + 128GB, 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 16GB + 256GB options. The dual-camera setup will house a 64MP Sony IMX686 and a new Sony IMX663 sensor. The device will run Android 11 out of the box.

Under the hood, it will draw power from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. A matter of concern here is that phones featuring the Snapdragon 888 SoC have been prone to heating issues. The Zenfone 8 mini’s relatively compact form factor could further result in the device heating up quickly. However, Asus is known to build powerful gaming phones and laptops. The company might pull some tricks up its sleeve to resolve these heating issues.
