Apple has refreshed the MacBook Pro series today with the launch of two new models. The company has announced a 14-inch MacBook Pro for the first time along with the 16-inch MacBook Pro. Both the NoteBooks are powered by Apple’s new silicon – M1 Pro and M1 Max. The new NoteBooks from Apple offers better battery life, high refresh rate screens, faster performance, more memory, and more port selections. Let’s take a look at the specifications, features, and price of the new MacBook Pro lineup.
Apple MacBook Pro price and availability
Both the MacBook Pro models with M1 Pro and M1 Max will be available for pre-order on the Apple India store. The sale will start on October 26 in India. The new 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at Rs 1,94,900 while the 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at Rs 2,39,900.
The company also announced macOS Monterey will be available as a free software update on October 25.
Apple M1 Pro and M1 Max chipset announced
Before we get started with the new Mac NoteBooks, let’s take a look at the new chipsets Apple announced today that also powers the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro NoteBooks. The Apple M1 Pro, as you can guess by the name, is the successor to the M1 chipset. The M1 Pro chipset comes with 200GB/s memory bandwidth, up to 32GB RAM, and is built on a 5nm fabrication process. 
Furthermore, the chipset comes with 33.7 billion transistors, up to 10-core CPU with 8 high-performance cores and 2 power-efficient cores. Apple says this is 70% faster than the M1 chip. There’s also up to 16 core GPU onboard. Other features include ProRes codec for video production and an advanced display engine.
The Apple M1 Max on the other hand is built on the same architecture as the M1 Pro, but it is more powerful. It has 400GB/s memory bandwidth, up to 64GB RAM, a 10-core CPU, and up to 32-core GPU offering 2x faster encoding than M1 Pro.

For the first time, the MacBook will be available in a 14-inch model along with a 16-inch model. Both the models come with a 3.5mm slim bezel all-around along with a camera notch which brings more screen estate. The 14-inch model has a 14.2-inch Mini LED display with 3024×1964 resolution while the 16-inch variant comes with a 16.2-inch 3456 x 2234 Mini LED screen. Both features Liquid retina XDR display with ProMotion offering up to a 120Hz screen refresh rate. The display can go up to 1,600nits. 
Further, both laptops can be configured with M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets. The advanced thermal system will allow the laptops to let 50% more air and perform a quiet operation. In terms of connectivity, Apple is adding more ports on the MacBook Pro – you get HDMI, Thunderbolt 4, SD card slot on the right side while you get a headphone jack, two thunderbolt ports, and Magsafe 3.0 port for changing on the left. The machines also support fast charging which can charge the device to 50% in 30 minutes. You can also charge the NoteBooks via thunderbolt ports.
In terms of battery life, the 14-inch model is said to last 17hrs video playback and the 16-inch model will last 21 hours of video playback. The new MacBooks come with a Full HD webcam with f/2.0 aperture, a larger sensor, and smart HDR features.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro comes with 16GB RAM with an option to configure up to 32GB of M1 Pro or M1 Max and up to 64GB on the M1 Max variant. The 16-inch MacBook Pro comes with 16GB/32GB RAM and can be configured up to 64GB.
Other features include a six-speaker setup, spatial audio support, macOSMonterey with instant wake from sleep and support for iPad and iPhone apps, magic keyboard with Touch ID, studio-quality mics, and SSD speed up to 7.4GB/s. Notably, the new MacBook Pro lineup misses out on the touch bar instead you get more port options.
Lastly, the 14-inch MacBook Pro weighs 1.58 Kgs and the 16-inch MacBook Pro weighs 2.13 Kgs.
