Nothing Phone (1) Takes OnePlus One Route, Said to Go on Sale Via Invite System Initially

Nothing Phone (1) launch event will be hosted on July 12. The company has confirmed several key features and details about its first smartphone. The design of the Phone (1) sets it apart from most of the smartphones on the market. Other than the design, the phone is also confirmed to feature a Snapdragon processor. A Geekbench listing revealed that this processor is the Snapdragon 778G+ SoC.

While the company is creating a lot of buzz online regarding the features, buying the Phone (1) might not be as easy. Nothing will go the OnePlus-way and make its device available for purchase via an invite system.

The company confirmed the details via a new teaser uploaded on its YouTube channel and other social media accounts. In the video, at 13.20 minutes, Nothing confirmed that its smartphone will be available for purchase via an invite-only system. It wants its community members – the ones who have been with the company since the beginning – to get their hands on the device first.

Carl Pei’s former company OnePlus had a similar approach at the very beginning where it sold the OnePlus One through an invite-only system. Those with an invite could not only purchase the device but also share a couple of more invites with their friends and family.

The invite-only system also helps a company (In this case, Nothing) to ensure it does not accumulate stock by manufacturing more units than required. The method of availability will also help maintain the buzz for a slightly longer time.

Once the company manages to ramp up the production, the device will be available for purchase for more and more people.

Nothing Phone (1): Specifications and Features

Nothing has confirmed some key specifications and features of the Phone (1) ahead of its official launch, which is slated to take place on July 12. The phone’s transparent rear panel shell has multiple strips, which house over 900 individual LED lights. These lights glow up when the user gets a call, notification or when they are charging the phone.

The device is also confirmed to sport a dual-camera setup with an LED flash. It also supports wireless charging. At the front, there is a hole-punch display, with the cutout at the top left corner. The company has confirmed that the device will run Android 12 out of the box with a layer of Nothing OS on top.

The Phone (1) will also come with a Snapdragon 778G+ SoC, as mentioned above. It will have at least 8GB of RAM. Lastly, the phone is rumoured to support 45W fast charging. What do you think about the invite system for the Phone (1)’s purchase? Let us know in the comments below.
